I currently have a set of 18" tires, all-season. As the winter is approaching, I was thinking of changing the tires to more suitable ones. And since I also do some offroading, I tried to search for AT (All-Terrain) tires, with the snowflake / mountain symbol on - as these are "severe snow rated".

There are a number of brands producing such tires (BFG, Dunlop, Goodyear) but none of them have the proper size for a Freelander 2 (i.e. 235/65/R17).

Did any of you encounter this issue? Are there any AT tires with this snow rating and which fit a LR2? Or are there any other sizes which would fit? For example, Goodyear SilentArmour have 235/70/R17 size available...

According to their website, Vredstein quatrac 3 have M+S and snowflake. Some UK suppliers have it in that size. Hope that helps.

Thanks, Pedro. The tire looks good, but I don't think it is an all-terrain (AT) tire. Therefore, I believe the offroad performance will be minimal.

Still, it is a decent alternative to take into account.

The 17" version has a very low speed rating (H), fortunatelly they have an 18" alternative (235/60/R18) which fits LR2 and is V rated.

I am using a taiwanese tire, Nankang Snow Viva SV1.
They have 235/65/17 dimension.
They are excelent on snow, ice, even for off-roading as the rubber is quite soft and offers a lot of grip.
Also, in the same time, they are very strong and they wear very slowly.
And also they are cheap comparing with other known brands, on the same dimension. About 500 RON per piece, on our currency.
I was skeptical at first but I've decided to give them a try at that price. I have never regreted the choice. All my off-roading was done with them.
Now I have the original 235/60/18 Pirelli Scorpion Zero which are crap both off-road and on snow/ice, even they are all season.

Hello Mihai. Michelin has a form of AT tyre suitable for "normal" off-road. It comes in your needed size 235/65/R17. The tyre is rated as summer rubber but I believe it has the needed snowflake symbol. It is called Latitude Cross, http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-latitude-cross
I have them on my car, as a summer tyre, and I will check tomorrow if the marking is indeed on the tyre.
Edit: No snowflake symbol, only M+S marking.

I believe that the Michelin Latitude Cross is being phased out. Very few tyre dealers in the UK can now obtain it. They try to fob you off with the Diarmaris which is a summer, road-biased tread tyre
