DPF Problem on 2011 SD4

Hi

My Freelander has developed a fault, a reduced engine performance warning occured on Thursday, it disappered all most immediately and I was advised by LR assist it should be ok and was probably a software crash.

However unfortunately it happened again on Saturday. It started to stall upon starting and then a yellow egine warning light came on. LR assist came out and diagnoised as DPV senor fault. (DPF)

The car has now been recovered to the Dealership and I am awaiting news:(

Anyone else experienced this?

DPV Sensor, not sure what that one is, but if by chance if was the DPF it could be the diesel particle filter sensor,

if the sensor is full, i think you also get a message saying so, so i could be wrong completely, but when full it does go into limp mode Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

o yes my 2011 td4 did this in november sent back to dealer will find fault code p244a shown in ecm thay did a re set job Thumbs Up rainy-city

dpf filter will req some form of looking after by you how to do this is in the owner book or there is a supplment
from landrover.

first part of warning dpf req attention amber light on instument display you must drive the vehicle at over 40mph
for the duration of 20/30mins if this does not cure the problem do the same again! if this does not cure this and the light stays amber or turns red contact dealer Bow down Bow down rainy-city

Folks,

God save you from DPF-problems. I come from the German LR-Forum and in the Freelander's section with more than 100 pages written it is the longest thread. The system is so complicated and goes deep into motor management that a lot of things (pressure sensors, AGR-valve, every small leak in the exhaust gas system etc) can contribute to a DPF-full-message, which very often followed by engine going into limp mode.. JLR knows well about the DPF-related problems and dealers here are exhausted to satisfy repair requests. You have no clue, when the regeneration process is under way and if uncompleted for several times in row, DPF-full message pops up. The system checks not only the clogging-grade of the DPF, but also counts the cold engine starts and mileage. After every 850 km and a certain number of cold starts a regeneration is initiated regardless of the cleanness of the filter. Especially manual-gear box owners and city / short distance drivers seem to be affected badly. The frequent DPF regenerations lead to dilution of engine oil and in the worst case can ruin the engine.

Land Rover Assist Engineer attended when fuel tank sensor fault showed only 29 miles left in tank when 120 miles from home with over half a tank.
When he contacted dealer to advise and authorise repairs needed he also said "MAKE SURE DPF SOFTWARE UPGRADE IS DONE AT SAME TIME, AS AT 6000 MILES YOURS IS JUST IN BAND WHERE YOU COULD HAVE A
PROBLEM"
Worth checking with your dealer. All FL2's (3) Gone

DPFs are a pain in the A Censored but you won't buy a new Euro 5 diesel without one. They store up all the crap and,when full, you have to pump diesel into the DPF at high temps to burn it all off - then it chucks it into the atmosphere and that makes all the greenies feel better. You can't avoid a regen warning, just put it off as long as possible by not doing too many short runs. Brother-in-law had a warning on his Saab which he couldn't reset by driving as advised in his handbook, so took it to dealer. They fixed it and on collection he asked what they had done - reply: start engine and put brick on accellerator for 20 mins!!!!

LRE instructor said last week (believe him or not, as you wish) that they always use the more expensive diesel (BP Ultimate etc) in Experience vehicles and have no DPF problems as a result.

I am very glad that I don't have the DPF on my FL2 (MY10). I understand that it helps reduce tax costs etc but I couldn't be doing with it. Sounds like a bit of a pain in the ar Censored e from what Atrix said. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
