Update: The fob operates the car. This is good news (means I did not mess it up when I replaced the battery). But after a 15 minute drive it will happily lock the car and that is it. Maybe I need to drive longer so it takes a bit more charge, I do not know. Not the result I was hoping for, to be honest...

Firstly thanks for likening me to Neil Armstrong - although he only walked on the moon Whistle

Whereas I did this all myself.

I had to charge the fob in the dock for 3-4 days without using it before it seemed to work constantly.

I used the ok fob to open/lock the car during this time.

It would be great if we could have a bench-top charging unit to top up the fobs in the house. Guess it would be a plate we could just lie our keys on. Think I had better patent this idea before anyone elese thinks of it. Don't tell anyone about it Laughing

Guess all we would need would be a dock from a crashed FL2.

psyxologos - don't give up so soon (I almost did) the fob will need much longer than 15minutes of trickle charge to give it enough power. 2002 Honda VFR800

Thanks for that. You gave me hope. I shall keep using the for to drive the car but not unlock/lock the doors for a few days, with longer trips to make sure it gets enough charge. When you say you had to do this in order to get the for to work constantly, do you mean you had similar problems with the for being able to lock/unlock once and nothing more than that? Thanks again.

Yes I did the same thing soldered the new battery in - closed the case (but didn't glue at this point) then put in the car dock for a couple of minutes - got out locked but nothing else - I too was disheartened - but a couple of days charging and it was been great since.

Just need to work out the best way to keep both charged Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

Both fobs you mean? Do you not alternate? If you are the only driver just change each week. Fortunately my wife and I both drive both cars so all four key fobs get charged.

I have a bit of red tape round my "spare" key, which reminds me I need to use it occasionally. (Accidental result of having had to tape it shut - previous owner had forced out the emergency key and broken the locking tab. Almost lost the fob part first time I hung it on my belt). Also helps me to find it when I've "put it down somewhere".

United States

I took a Dremmel and scribed a #1 on one fob, and #2 on the other. Odd number is used for odd months, and even number for even months.

I went scuba diving this weekend and my mate dared me to take the fob down with me (after telling him it was waterproof). If they weren't so darn expensive to replace, and I had had my second fob with, I might have taken him up on it.

If they are truly "waterproof", I wouldn't hesitate to take it to depth. I hate trying to find places to hide the fob while I'm diving. Maybe I can talk the stealership into putting their money where their mouth is. I take one to depth; take a photo of it at 45 meters, and if it leaks they buy/program me a new one. Wink

How do you know if it works under 45meters? You can try opening the car and if it's gone by the time you're back it probably worked Mr. Green

It might be open - but switched off and with steering lock engaged.

But if you don't surface within 3 minutes from locking it will auto lock again, and you'll never know Laughing and if you do surface within 3 minutes you'll most likely suffer from the bends Shocked
