Nut or no Nut - that is the question?

When cleaning the inside of the car this AM and grovelling around down by the brake pedal, I noticed that in the driver's footwell to the left of and above where the steering column goes through the bulkhead there is a bolt (M8ish) protruding through the bulkhead by about 1.5 inches but without a nut on it.

Is this normal or do LR owe me a nut?

The bolt is almost certainly engaged in a threaded hole, or a nut is welded into place on the bulkhead. It's simply too time consuming and unreliable to use loose nuts in assembly.

Agreed, but it looks odd to have 1.5 inches of unused bolt protruding into the footwell.

Mass production is probably the reason - if they changed too much from a manual to an auto setup the price would probably double!
