Had new clutch and flywheel under warranty about 4 weeks ago and ever since, have noticed that the car now pulls a bit to the left, ie, the steering wheel is naturally turned slightly off centre when going in a straight line and if let go on a straight stretch, it will start going left on its own. Would the mechanics have had to touch anything in the steering system to get at the clutch? Also, now getting what can only be described as an on / off low level whine or rubbing sound, a bit like wind noise, which gets faster as you speed up and then disappears, most noticeable when pulling away. Any ideas? Is my Freelander doomed to suffer regular issues? Finally, 2nd year service cost is a staggering £524. I'd like to know what on earth they are going to do for that! Build me a bl**dy new one??

Interesting that you have a clutch problem. My car is the same age as yours and I have done some hefty off roading on a number of occasions and (touch wood) the clutch is fine.

Also, ring the dealer and get them to take the car in to have it sorted regarding the pulling to the left issue. I once had that with a ford focus and it turned out the tracking was out.

As for the service cost! Ring other dealers and see what they charge. That price seems grim but mine isn't due it's second service until April 2012. First service cost £320. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I don't know about everyone else but mine is naturally sensitive to camber and will always pull slightly in that direction. I never really noticed it before, until I drove it in France and found it was pulling in the other direction. An easy test is to drive on the wrong side of a quiet road and see if it levels up or pulls the other way...

As for that service cost - thats shocking mines going in for its 4th service tomorrow (which is I think the same as the 2nd service ) at Stratstone and its only costing £350 all in.  Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Cheers Doc. Just watch out for any juddering when you accelerate, if it happens, book it straight in. That's what I had happen, dual mass flywheel was the culprit.

The subframes, halfshafts and tie rods must be tampered in order to remove the clutch.
The subframes (at least the front one) must be aligned.
Also the tie rods lengths must be adjusted.
If all these aren't done properly, pulling to the left or right can be felt.
