I am trying to organise a meet (only 3 inc myself so far) and I have found a route I want to add to the day.

The problem is this: I have found out that 4x4's are fully authorised to go down there (east to west only) but from the camera on google street view it doesn't look wide enough to get the FL2 down.

The pic isn't the most detailed admittedly but you guys take a look and see what you think.

Search for Rushup Lane and at the top end where it meets the A6187 you will see the bridleway opposite. Go into street view mode and see what you think.

All signs point to yes but that street view picture does look like it's too narrow. Interesting...

Doc you caught me just in time - off this evening for then rest of July.

Opposite Rushup Lane is indeed a bridleway - you can approach from Castleton take the 6187-

But also try RL with vehicle access to Rushop Hall n farm (now also a smart B&B) - from there on you'll probably not be welcomed - I cannot confirm the the legality of motoring further south on this lane to the point where it meets Sparrow Pit.

If you do an pre tour rekkie come from the south i.e Peak Forest - you can use the 623 then turn right into Sparrow Pit Lane. - This used to be is fine, so motor along to where it meets Rushup Lane. There you can check if all's well.

I'm no techie and you are I'm sure far more adapt at internet searches and web mapping sites re green lane access etc. So do your homework. I wish you n the lads a safe n legal off road.

ps: not scheduled to be "home" until the autumn - so if you survive this one I'll be willing to show you some and have a pint as well

Doc - in a rush lots to do before flying off - just 'phoned my brother (owd cuss in his early 70's) he said you'll have a hostile reception as he thinks that there is ongoing repair work on the path you seek. So check that out thoughly. He also said that Rushup Lane's fine (but he may be trying to get me in trouble - he can be a bit of a b*gger like that) and suggested you could go over Dirk Low Rake due south Sparrow Pits Lane/Rushup Lane.

I have managed to find some pictures of the route which is apparently called The Roych. It is a little challenging in places but what do you guys think of the step in picture 25 in the link below? Will the FL2's ground clearance be an issue. (I admit it's hard to tell from that picture)

Should be ok, wont be able to tell till we get there properly.

Drove over to Castleton today and had a look. The track is definitely wide enough although some slow and steady driving will be needed on some parts which are quite narrow.

There is a sign post at the top which states the speed limit is 5mph (you wouldn't want to go any faster on that surface anyway) and also states the strict one way system.

i think its more to do with the fact they don't think cars should be on their road
