Why privacy glass?

Just been reading the thread on privacy glass. Don't like it myself but obviously lots of others do. But why? So, I thought a poll might be in order. Brian

In my case it's to keep it cool inside.
I have window tint (film type) which also keeps the glass in place if the window smashes for what any reason.
It's also good to stop anyone looking in of course.

I think it's pretty good as a security enhancement. Apart from not being able to easily see any gear has been inadvertantly left on the back seat, people tend not to try and peer in as they don't know if anybody is in there looking back at them.
Downside is that one of my passengers put on their raincoat to get out and only realised it was sunny when they opened the door Rolling Eyes

People still look in through tinted glass, a little druggy scroat does not care who is watching and usually targets cars with tinted glass because people think they can leave stuff out thinking no one will see in!

Handy if you have kids. They cant be seen staring at people and people cant stare at the kids.

I hated the idea of privacy glass and couldn't see the point, until I finally had a car where it came as standard...

Now that I've got it, there are two main reasons why I've forked out for it on the order for my new Freelander:

1. I often have my border collie with me in the car and I always have to make sure that there's never any chance of him getting hot when he has to wait in it. The heavy privacy tint glass on the RS makes all the difference in the world to keeping it cool inside.

2. My wife suffers from eczema and it really helps if she can keep her skin out of the sun. She finds it really helps now that she can sit in the back of the RS, behind the privacy glass, on sunny days in the summer.

It's popular in Australia to keep the sun out and keep the car cooler. You could fry an egg in there after you have parked for a while some days. Smile If it's too dark then it's a bit dangerous of a night time, you can't see out the side window very well when turning. They have legislated only allowing lighter shades now. Personally I think the lighter shades can be appealing and keep the UV out without looking like a drug lord. Cool yo! and it stops my bitch from gettin' sunburn

A multitude of sins can be committed with tinted windows - even parked on the High Street. Cant see much to no difference to driver visability in honesty and if it's strong sun, would aid visability.

You cant look cool driving along if youve got an ugly misses and kids, so stick them in the back where they cant be seen.

Lots of reasons really,

-looks cool
-keeps it cool, ESP. For kids/dog in the back
-security
-film is nasty, and scratches if dogs/loads in boot touch it
