Manual transmission knock when slowing

I have a small knock or tap which can be felt in the gearstick when the car slows down almost to a stop.
Doesn't matter what gear, clutch in or out makes no difference.
Dealer says he can't feel it but it's there.
Anyone else had same problem?

The selector has a vehicle speed dependent solenoid interlock device.
It's there to ensure that the driver is prevented from accidentally selecting reverse gear when moving forward.
When the solenoid is energized, movement of the gear stick is restricted to prevent the reverse gear position being accessed. The solenoid is activated at speeds over 25 km/h (15 mph) and deactivated at speeds below 15 km/h (9 mph).
After you feel that knock, the solenoid will let you select reverse. Until then you cant.

Is the "small knock or tap":

a) it happens once when slowing
b) keeps happening until I stop 2002 Honda VFR800

yes mine does this too..........I was a bit concerned until it was explained on the forum what it actually was.

I was sure that it hadn't been there originally, but it must have been and I just hadn't noticed it.

Manual transmission noise when slowing.

Thanks all, that's put my mnd at rest. Why not use a gate with a lift like vauxhall etc? Seems a bit like an afterthought. No matter if that's all it is then I can live with it. The rest of he car s great, new to LR. Really impressed. Thumbs Up 07 SE manual, Narvick black.
