Xenon headlamp retro fit

Hi all, my first post and a newcomer to Land Rover !

Could some kind person tell me if I can replace my existing halogen projector headlamps on my FL2 HSE 2009 with Xenon headlamp units? Will they require additional wiring or do they use the same plug?

I understand basically how they work etc. with the auto levelling motor, is this part of the unit along with the ballasts? Will the auto levelling work as required by law, and will coding to recognise the Xenons on the OBC be all that is neccessary? I also believe they use sensors on the front and rear suspensions to adjust the levels, will my car have these sensors?

thanks Very Happy

Ok

looks like all that is required is to have the OBC coded to accept the Xenons, but cant find any topics confirming that my vehicle will have the suspension sensors to enable auto levelling.

Can anyone confirm the auto levelling will work?

thanks

Hi,

I've completed the xenon upgrade in mine! No auto levelling just use the manual levelling as normal.

To have auto-levelling you have to have the addition wiring, module, fuses etc.

I personally like having the manual adjustment over the auto anyway! Everything else works including the Bi-xenon main beam!

Thumbs Up

Thanks for replying. The only concern I had was that auto levelling is a legal requirement, and the vehicle will be modified illegally for insurance purposes.

I settled for Halogen Projector headlights to replace my Halogen Reflectors

The headlights I am getting frome e bay must be off the MY2011 model as I can't see any pre 2011 vehicles with projector halogen headlights. These are standard version now on new FL2. Surprisingly cheap for new headlights too!

I will post pics before and after change if anyone is interested together with Philips Xtreme vision 100% bulbs

Merc-Ben, any luck with the before and after headlight mod? Is there any difference to the reflector and projection type? And was it a simple swap around (plugs etc)?

Keen to know how you make out. Standard Halogen reflectors seem pretty pants.
Let us know if the Projectors represent a step forward!

I fitted the projector halogens (2011 headlights) today, straight swap with no problems on my 59 reg HSE.

They look a lot better and give off good light with "Osram H11 (dipped beam) Night breaker plus" latest line of bulbs, and Philips Xtreme vision 100% bulbs on main beam. I also replaced the crap sidelights with LED bulbs (5 led) which look great too.

The main beam is H7 and dipped beam as mentioned above is now an H11 bulb. Thumbs Up
