Currently on probation, I shall be a fully fledged SD4 owner come September, it cannot come soon enough.
I currently drive a C class Merc, the box in that (auto) is certainly a weak point, it has had software tweaks on numerous occasions and doesn't seem quite capable of providing the experience it should, to me, made worse as it learns your driving style.

If I drive home rather spiritedly, the last few miles are over the moors, so it can be fun, the box "adapts" to this spirited drive, the following day when you set off, it's like a dog on heat, totally uncontrollable and takes a while to settle down.

I feel part of the argument over the box is caused by this trait, the box needs to learn each and every time your behaviour changes, which can be a pain.

That said...following the SD4 test drives, I can say the Freelander is hands down, quieter, smoother and more comfortable than the Benz.
