Noticed some small paint chips on the front of the bonnet today One of them has gone down to the primer, the other 2 are not as deep. I bought the touch up paint pen kit from Land Rover - should I give it a go, or let the proffesionals do it when it has it's 1st service ?? Anyone know how much LR charge for 3 or 4 small chips ?

my experience of touch up pens are that they a pain in the rear end to use, and can make the chip look worse

Your never going to be chip free, you pay for them to be repaired and get another on the way home

There are a few chip fixing kits on the market which appear to be a little different to use than the blob of paint topped with lacquer from the dealer

Have a look at the Chip-Ex System (Available in the UK) or Dr Colorchips (A US based system, which will need importing) which have 2 kits, one for chips and one for rash (loads of tiny chips)

from memory you provide them the paint code (drivers door pillar) and they send you a kit out for about £50, you fill the chip with the paint, then let it dry, then you use the second bottle of remover and wipe it over the chip to remove the excess, leave and buff to a shine Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If chips are small, use a cocktail stick slightly frayed at the tip (chew it). A small drop of paint first. Do not worry if it is proud of surface it will shrink into damaged area. Build up over a couple of days, let it harden for a few days then T-Cut and polish. All FL2's (3) Gone

i agree, if you go for the twin bottle of LR touch up pens, don't use the brush its big enough to paint a wall, not a stone chip

i have read (never tried myself) that you need to cover the base of the chip with colour, and build the chip up with the clear lacquer to be same height and the surrounding paint,

or

mix a blob of paint with the lacquer and build it up with a cocktail stick or a straightened paper clip Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Anyone try vinyl on your bonnet? Does it's help to get rid of stone chip issue?

You can get the clear vinyl that protects it from stone chips, I have some on my bike and underneath the paint's immaculate.

hows chip-ex system like on scratches? or is it not possible

My father in law scraped his rear bumper on a bright yellow grit box when turning round, didn't see it and i was wondering if its possible to use it on things like that  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You can, its better if the scratch is a little deep, very light scratches are hard to do.

Maybe I'll give it a go if I'm feeling brave ! Anyone know how much LR charge for a touch up job ?
