Painful to see, wonder how the cash works out and the category D status? Any ripple effect through the rest of the body?. On offer for less than half of new cost, £5k to repair? Could you sell it on at a decent price?? Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

Difficult to say, but it will always have Cat D registered against it and I know not many would puirchase it.

read this earlier, and the description says the nose is point to the NS, i take it that means is going to need jigging back into line, can this be done on a strengthened 4x4 chassis

personally i wouldn't buy a CAT D, even though they have to have the test done, theres too much chance of it been a  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

well now I know how big and where the washer bottle is!

washer bottle is bigger if there are headlight jets, and cat d is the least amount of damage usualy cosmetic ie pannels it would be a cat c if the cnasis needed to be jigged

cat d are usualy a fairly straight forward repare

would want a full report befere and after the repair.

I think its put up job - old style FL2 on 60 plate replaced on old for new basis by insurance with face lifted model, new engine etc.

seems like a good deal ???  There's always a way forward!

A 'write off' is a colloquial term for a vehicle which has been declared a total loss by an insurer, either following accident damage or theft. There are some 450,000 accident-related write-offs every year and another 150,000 insurance thefts, many of which are subsequently recovered damaged and re-classified. Many write-offs are legitimately allowed back on the roads following a repair; the safest ones to buy are those which have passed an independent vehicle inspection, such as those on HPI's Condition Inspected register. However, almost half of all write-offs are so badly damaged that qualified insurance inspectors determine that they should never go back on the road. To assist the industry and the used car buyer, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has since 1997 provided the following classification of damage to vehicles that have been deemed an insurance write-off:

o Category A:

Scrap only - this vehicle should have been crushed. It should never reappear on the road and there are no economically salvageable parts. It is of value only for scrap metal - e.g. a totally burnt-out vehicle.

o Category B:

The bodyshell should have been crushed. The vehicle should never reappear on the road, but it can be broken for spare parts plus any residual scrap metal.

o Category C:

Vehicle extensively damaged and insurer has decided not to repair. May be repaired and put back on the road. Has to pass an inspection to be re-registered as damaged repaired.

o Category D:

Vehicle damaged and insurer has decided not to repair. When fixed can be re-registered as damaged repaired.

o Category F:

it says for salavge parts, what parts are left undamaged? Every panel inc roof is bent (Except a couple of doors @ £200 each), wheels, lights and even the passenger seat looks damaged,
Engine, gear box and anxillaries wont add up to £4k (48,000 miles) I suspect the fact it isn't registered as damaged might have something to do with it-A Ringer in the making if you ask me
