Headlamp Washers

Yesterday i noticed that the headlight washers were putting more fluid on the top of the bonnet and down the side of the wings than on the headlights. The "washed" area of the lens unit was only the top 40%, and on the left (n/s) or right (o/s) [lhd FL2]. This leaves the bottom and right/left areas of the lens dirty.

So my question is this: are the two black plastic washer nozzles inside each headlight washer unit designed to be moved i.e the fluid spray redirected? Anyone know for certain that they can be moved - and how?

Normally you stick a pin in and move. Thats if they can be moved. Wont do any harm trying to have a wiggle.

That's my thought - which is why I've posted the question. However there's always someone on Freel2 that cxomes along and say's "this is how you do it" - usually Lars or Alex Bow down

I don't belive that they are adjustable.
At (highway) speed, that stream of fluid is flatened by the wind. So it will hit a lot lower.
When the glass is dirty, the dust/mud tends to create haze for incomming cars.
This is why when you have a higher output headlight, like the xenon ones, it is mandatory to have headlight washers.
Also, only the low beam "exit" is necessary to be cleaned, because when you travel with high beam the clearness of the glass is the last thing that counts for the incomming drivers...
And this low beam "exit", at least for the reflector type headlights, is on the top of the reflector.
See below. It's for a H4 style bulb, but the principle is the same.



The washing nozzles are designed the same for both systems (reflector and lens) because for the lens type headlights, like xenon ones, the exit points of the light are quite small, comparing with the reflector ones, and well covered by the washing system.
So don't worry, they do the job pretty well and clean only where they're supposed and is important to clean.

Okay, so no adjustment required - it is disappointing from both an ecological and economic stance to see so much winter washer fluid just not hitting the intended target. Big Cry

I suppose it's possible there's some crud in the nozzle causing the jet to be misdirected It might be worth trying to clear that with a pin even though you can't redirect the nozzles.
