Reading your post again, sounds to me as if it could be a dodgy main light switch if the fuses & bulbs are ok or the stalk switching between high & low beam.

silly thought but are your lights on auto or do you manually switch them on?

Definatly the weather, your bulbs weren't use to the sun been out in Scotland |

Yeh I never noticed they were blown to start with due to the 4 inches of snow on the car!

Both my dipped beam bulbs packed up a couple of days ago when I got into the car to go home from work, unfortunatly it was 11pm and and -7 deg. It's quite a cold job changeing bulbs at that time of night.
