Tow Bar - Quick question (never quick :) )

Hi Guys,
With my Father in Laws FL2 (with tow bar) being out of action i'm in need of a tow bar fitting pronto.

Question 1. - Do i go for a standard tow bar or a removable one as i do have reversing sensors (that now work Smile )?
Question 2 - Independent or Main dealer? I've had a price of a standard tow bar as being £230 fitted if they can tie into the electrics with soldering etc (don't like the sound of this (and nor does my warranty)) or £438 with the wiring harness (ouch) or a main dealer at £545. I know my stealer will want to be paid for changing a Zero to a One on the onboard computer so £438 plus an hours labour is around £545 i guess.

Censored , this could get expensive.... Any help is appreciated,
Thanks

You will probably need to have the dealer remap the software after installation to reprogramme the reversing sensors etc but many on here have had their towbars fitted by independants with no problems, i have had the removeable one fitted on both my fl2s but the options for rear cycle carriers are restricted especially when you want a trailer and a cycle carrier at the same time the standard two bolt version is more flexible.
Brink, witter and landrover are all good but note that some ( landrover) do need a small amount of rear bumper trimming.

Go to Chester Towbar and Trailer Centre just off Sealand Road.
Fitted a Witter detachable ball unit complete with 13 pin socket, supplied a 13 pin to 2x7 pin adaptor and a single 13 pin to 7N adaptor, reprogrammed the car and supplied paperwork to inform main dealers of recoding.
Price in May 2008 £576.00 including VAT.

Thanks Bill,
Did CT re-programme the car or did they take it to LR?
Cheers,

Chester Tow-bar reprogrammed it.
Only problem was when trying to get the rear parking sensors fixed Conwy Land Rover would not look at them as they said it was a tow bar wiring fault but since so many others are having this problem which LR acknowledge but have still not found a complete solution (see topic on here) they have changed their attitude.
