Alpine Sat Nav retrofit

Hi all. New to the boards and am yet to buy an LR2, but the plans are in progress.

One problem I have found is that in Dubai where I am moving shortly you can only get Sat Nav from the factory in the HSE model, which also comes with leather, but due to the heat over there I don't want leather, but do want a factory fit style sat nav (Especially as my portable Navman was stolen out of my car this morning along with my headunit!!! Evil or Very Mad )

Anyway, I popped into a dealer here in Amsterdam and took a look around a few of there Freelander 2's and asked about the Sat Nav, where by they told me that they couldn't get the LR version at the moment. So instead they are installing an Alpine version, which of course he said was better, but it looked factory fit and when it was powered up the LR logo was displayed. It looked good and I've taken a gander at the Alpine websites but cannot figure out exactly what the dealer was using to get the full integration....any ideas?

I'm thinking maybe a DVD based sat nav module with a touch screen and an Alpine Factory Integrated Technology (F.I.T.) hub to link into the standard system. With an Alpine touchscreen mounted in the normal LR Sat Nav place and linked to a hub, you could control the Sat Nav, Radio/CD, Ipod, have bluetooth connection with your phone and also see the cars Trip info on the screen as well...........is this the way they did it though?

I trust I bored you sufficiently with my first post here Thumbs Up

I second digitalgerald's question, that would be most useful.

Thanks,

Ik heb een aluminium frame gemaakt om een Nuvi 660.
Het past precies in de opening van de originele navigatie.
De landrover dealer in Purmerend heeft er al 10 van me gekocht.

Groet Aäron

Sorry for the dutch

I made an aluminium frame for the Nuvi 660.
It fits precisely in the gap of the original navigation.
The Land Rover dealer in Purmerend allready bought 10 of them from me.

Sorry I simply don't know.

I wish I did because then it would make my decisions much easier if I knew what the costs would be. Take a look at the Alpine websites, especially the US version. Another nice option is to get the Blackbird portable Sat Nav and docking station and link this to a screen and the hub/vehicle interface unit for full integration, but also a nav system you can also take to other vehicles when needed.

Looks like for the cost and ease I'll just have to take the HSE model which includes SatNav.......

I'd much rather be sweating on leather (wipe clean) than up-holstery, besides with the auoto windows you can vent the catr before getting in, and with the price of petrol in Dubai, you can run the aircon permanently

That's a good point, and I guess with the right tints on the windows and parking in the right places it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Air con will be on all the time as it will only cost 12 quid or so to fill up....and the company pays for that anyway.

I've tried opening the windows to vent the car over there and found it better to keep the windows closed and wait for the air con.........especially when its 46 oustide!!! Laughing

Dear Gerard,

This is a picture of the Nuvi in my car.
The price of the frame is 200 euro.
The Nuvi is for sale at your local Garmindealer.

it is a lot of work to make it.
What you can't see at the picture is the frame behind the Nuvi.
You can slide the frame in the opening without damaging the car.

Sorry, Aäron
