Battery Life

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I can't find it if it has! Is anyone with 2006/2007MY's still running on their original battery? Mine is, but I'm conscious of the fact this cold weather, which is set to continue, kick the a Censored e out of the battery and I don't want a non-start Shocked

Thus far, she's always started well, with the usual coughs and splutters in the cold weather Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Wales 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

Just because your battery is a few years old does'nt mean you have to replace it.
You could buy a new battery and it could fail just outside it's guarantee.
Many batteries can continue to give many years service, much longer than yours.
As your battery has continued to be okay during this cold snap, i'd keep it.
Better the devil you know.

My thoughts exactly, but I've been caught out before and it always happens after a long day at work in the p Censored g rain. I was curious to see if there had been any failures, and if so, at what stage??

Good advice. Thumbs Up
Lots of people must have bought a new battery when a charge would have sufficed.
It's difficult for the alt to replace a lot of charge at low temps and with running large elecrtical loads. Particulary worse on short runs

this is VERY good advise. For somebody without a car collection, I would opt for the XS7000. It gives all the options including the 8 step patented charging cycle.

It also comes with a quick connector set which will be permanently fixed to the battery. Attaching the starter becomes a 10 second task this way Thumbs Up With kind regards

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

my 56 plate hse is still on orig battery 51k and been to the french alps twice where temp was -32 with a windchill of -44 the 1st time and 2nd time windchill went as low as -47 both occasions fl2 was outside parked for 1 week and no problems starting 3rd visit in 6 weeks time oh and 2nd year i was first up mountain track in virgin snow about 8" deep and steep climb no probs excellant vehicle Thumbs Up

An old dear on our street has just been "tricked" into buying a new battery for her 08 Corsa, she only uses it on a Thursday to make a 3 mile round trip to Morrisons-I wondered if it just needed a good run or a overnight charge???

Thanks for advice. My car gets a 40 mile round trip to work, so gets regular runs. Fingers crossed the battery will be okay Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

I have a 21 year old Citroen 2Cv which is on its second battery. The first one lasted 9 years and the presnt one has been on it 12 years. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

the Deux chevaux originates from a time, where there were no electronics in cars. If you switch the ignition off, then there is no currant draw at all. Wink

The pragmatic approach with a non-daily driver is not "does it start" but will it start when embarking on the way home from the sunday excursion. And that will depend on the residual charge in the battery. Wink With kind regards
