Got a 2009 model XS with the XS sport pack, i.e. 19" wheels.

We need possibly one, maybe two new fronts since the one in particular is showning eneven wear on the outside edge - rest of tire is fine but the edge of the one only has a few mm of the tread pattern left.

Firstly, do we need to change? Secondly, anywhere in South Wales recommended? - had a local fitter badly scratch an alloy on an old Fiesta we had to tend to be cautious with fitters changing alloys but local Landrover dealer wanted £220 per tire! They are 19" Continentals I think, not sure of the specifics, whatever came fitted on the XS wheels.

sounds very much like my continentals

they scrub off the outer edge, due to power steering, or going round corners too fast etc, the law is as long as 75% of the tyre is legal then you don't need to change

I found the best deal was ordering my replacement online with kwik fit, though i replaced 2 to keep the tread depth the same i only paid for the one, as the other was claimed on my tyre insurance due to the nail in it

Thanks for that. LR dealer has recommended one new tire at £200, tracking and wheel alignment for all four corners - about £250 total.

Said the wheels are pretty non standard so not much in the range of alternative tires for the size - had to order the Continental replacement in for fitting Friday. FL2 TD4 XS manual, XS style pack, Martinique Blue

from what i read, IIRC tracking and alignment is about £100 at the dealers, and places like kwik fit cant do it

might be worth making a call, to find out what they charge as a stand alone tracking check as £250 is quite a good price i think, unless thats + VAT Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Includes vat apparently.
200 for the tire, 40 or so for tracking with alignment on all four for 10 or so if done at same time.

I had my tracking done at ATS when having two new front tyres. As I recall about £50.

Okay, they did the new tire, tracking and alignment of all wheels.

Apparently there is inside wear showing on both rears which may need replacing next service (March)..! Arghhh!

My wife questioned the potential reasons for this and they said could be caused by pot holes...

Is this normal? Car is less than two years old, we do low mileage and the most it's been offroad is through muddy grass... Could they wheels have been missaligned from new and/or should they have been picked up on the last service?

I am sure what you meant to say was '75% of the central part of the tyre' i.e. you can't have the outer quarter below 1.6mm.

Current tread depth legislation requires that car tyres must have a minimum of 1.6mm of tread in a continuous band throughout the central three-quarters of the tread width and over the whole circumference of the tyre.

But then again how are we supposed to check if our FREEBIEs don't show up

Doubtful it's pot holes - tyre wear on the inner edge is caused by either tracking toeing out or, and possibly more likely, by the stupid speed bumps thrown at random all throughout the UK - they look like a lump of tarmac has dropped of a truck resulting in a lump in the road, when you drive over them just the inner edge of the fronts and then the rear tyres hits the edge of the bump and with regular use wears the inner edge.
Your supposed to drive with one tyre on the flat road and the other side tyre over the highest point of the bump which actually will do less damage than crusing over the lump at 'ramming speed'

When you ordered your tyres online from Kwik-Fit, i assume they also fitted them?
Or could you have picked them up and gone elsewhere?
