United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black
buying, new gs or 3yr old hse ??

I am new to this site and the world of landrover, getting out of my german rep mobile into a freelander. I work as a grain buyer and 97% of my world is on tarmac but want to be able to get to stores on farm (and since realising i want one, weekend green laning !!). tried the Freelander and fell in love within 3/4 miles. I couldnt think of a reason not to own one. However, I am undecided whether I should pick a 07 hse 30k miles or newer gs for the same money? I like my toys so its kind of obvious but before making decision would like some thoughts. Also, finance, itll be around 18-20k by the looks of it, main dealership seems a little expensive?. Been to Hunters kins lynn, Thanks Andy

Like you say mate, the car is the same, just the toys that make the experience different. Buying new, though, you get all the warranty advantages etc. I don't think anyone could really advise you, after all it's your decision as to the spec you fancy. Any freelander is a bloody good car. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Ditto

Warranty is what you need. Specs have improved over the years slightly now as well - new GS has some of the toys HSE had 3 years ago anyway and you get benefit of them ironing out problems (Hopefully) in a new car.

New GS (with some extras if you need them) is in every way as good as a HSE. Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I'm in the other camp having just bought a Landrover Approved Used <3 yr old SE with options... I guess it depends on what you want, if you don't care much for leather, arm rests, sun roofs and sat navs then I would say the new GS - although I'm interested where you can get a new GS for the same money as a 3 yr old HSE... I think your probably closer to a nearly new XS - at least then you will still get at least 2years warrantee with the option to extend also you wont take such a big hit on depreciation as this usually happens the minute you drive it out of the showroom! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

I'm pretty sure he means a newer/younger GS and not brand new. If you buy approved you get warranty anyway so I would have no problem choosing the HSE. Phil

your £20k might get you very close to a brand new 'S' MY2011 model, with the Terrain Responce system now included it makes it a even greater entry level at £21695 Idea Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Got to be a HSE - auto
mines a couple of years old, as good as the day I bought it
brings a smile to my face every time I drive it.
Whats not to like apart from the fuel consumption?
Sat Nav is clear enough to read without glasses, music system is better than the one in the house, heated leather seat is comfy enough that I can nip to Southampton and still manage a days work, and when she nicks the car and moves the seat - one touch of a button and it,s back. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I was in exactly the same situation as yourself.

I went for a 3 year old HSE with all the toys.

With regard to warranty, you get 12 months LR approved, so it is piece of mind (provided you buy from a main dealer)

Apart from issues with the dealer I bought mine from, I'm glad I made the decision I did.
I just could not bring myself to accept the initial hit on depreciation with a new car.

Cheers,

I'd go HSE every time, according to my dealer the HSE is the model most people want and has the best residuals. (Their words, not mine).

I wouldnt worry about the warranty to be honest, my warranty ran out a year ago and I have only had two relatively low cost faults, a boot switch (£17) and a key failure (£105ish with LR contribution). Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather.
