I'm confused! (and it doesn't take too much to do that these days)
While waiting for my new face lifted sd4 to arrive I'm wondering why people call the new version MY11 or 11MY when the new range of reg plates are 60?
I could understand MY10 as it corresponded to the year but why and how did we get to a '60' plate and why isn't it transcribed as MY60?
And what do we get next, '65' ?

It was all much simpler and seemed to make sense when it related to an actual year date.

It refers to the Year of manufacture

Manufacture Year 2011 = MY11, next will be MY12

I thought MY stood for Model Year and like most things isn't specifically constrained by the actual calander year, much in the same way that October magazines come out in September. 

There does seem to be lots of conventions used and confused.
This is my understanding:
MY09 = model year 2009 refers to the spec of a car which manufacturers are/is going to produce, can be earlier in the calendar year so can be referenced even though we are in 2008.
2008 = people can refer to their car by year manufactured, doesn't always tie with 2 digits on the plate as in UK there are two registrations in the year.
08 or 58 plate = refers to the actual digits on the plate so can pinpoint the registration age better. Phil

MY = Model Year. This is a manufacturers term nothing to do with vehicle registration. Model year is used each time there is an upgrade to a vehicle. When worked with Ford 1/2 and 1/4 were often used in official technical documents when mechanical, software or some othes upgrade took place. A new colour may be advised as
"available from 98.5 or 98.75 my. All FL2's (3) Gone

FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

We also use 1/4 and 1/2 in the run-up to a new model. For intstance, the car I drive is a 10.75my!

Depending on the age (generally 9my and earlier) you can tell the my by the chassis number....... eg SALFA23B57H055405 signifies that this is a 7my.

Each my will see changes to the specifications (eg smooth steering wheel, DAB radio etc etc) with 11my being the most significant for FL2 so far.

Hi Phil

LR is a Global brand. The MY designation is therefore Global.

Countries outside the UK do not have our number plate definitions the same as the UK but they do confirm to the same calendar. So althouth they are in 20'10' they do not have '60' plates (or 59 for that matter).

I guess the next question from you is why we are discussing MY11........
