removable tow bar problem

Has any one had a problem with a removable tow bar? I had one fitted from new march 08 and after about a year the lock would not work properly and a new one was supplied, this one has now decided that it wants to stay on the car, the lock seems to work but I can't remove it from the car.
I did a search and loads posts came up but I didn't find an answer.
Any help will be much appreciated. Embarassed

Silly Question but when you have turned the key to unlock do you just try to turn the Knob? or do you push it in then turn it?. It caught me out a few times.
I always leave the tow bar off when its not needed.

I press the button in and then turn it, I have fitted and removed the tow bar several times but can't work out why it is not working. I dont want to take a hammer to it as it is still under warranty. I just thought someone may have had a similar problem and knew of a way of releasing it. I may just have to take it back to the stealers.

You could be right but when I lock it you can't push the button in, when I unlock it I can push the button in and turn it so it seems to function as it should it just wont lift off.
Next time I am passing the workshop I will get them to take a look if no one has any other ideas. Cheers Thumbs Up

Just spent the last 20 mins faffing around with mine. I don't think the previous owner ever took it out!

Coud'nt get it out so gave it a good dose of WD40 and left it for a few minutes. I find that I have to push in then turn the handle. It makes a "snap" but still does not come out. Allow the handle to return, do not push in again but just turn it and the ball will drop out.

Refitting had me confused until I realised you leave the handle alone as you refit it Embarassed

Although marked with a Land Rover logo the documentation refers to Thule, is this normal?

Handbook also refers to a "dummy" to fit when the ball is out. Can't find one in the car Sad Prog rock is cool! Smile

Yes the genuine towbar is made by Brink/Thule and is press and turn to remove. It is worth checking when it is in position if there is any play as some members have had some play in the mounting and have had the replaced.

The "Dummy" what you are looking for is this (credit for this to Mcphersonstrut) Thumbs Up

Ta for the pic, at least I know what I am looking for. I will lift out the spare and check around for it. I think the previous owner was a regular tower as the ball is quite marked. I was surprised to see it with a 12N/12S hitch although it suits me with my van.

Took the van back to storage today, was a dream to tow and the auto box was a godsend. No play in the towball that I could detect and I even managed to reverse the van into its bay 1st go. Of course nobody was watching, normally make a complete pigs ear of it when they are. Prog rock is cool! Smile
