Dear Freelander 2 Community !

I have visited this forum since I bought my FL2 back in Sept. 2007 and have found valuable information here – thanks for that !

Now I have a problem which slowly crept in since around 8 months and which I couldn’t spot in the whole forum, therefore here my first post with a question:

The rubber strips which are glued to the edges of all four the wheel housings are continuously detaching themselves from their position – in particular at the end or the beginning of a strips. The pieces which are already detached are very stiff and you can’t simply press it back into position. There was no mechanical wear or cross-country drive involved in this. I have attached some photos to illustrate this a bit better.

As Landrover have not been very open to guarantee claims in another case I would like to get some information prior to the planned repair.

Does anybody here know about such a case and – if yes – how was it resolved (method of repair, guarantee) ?

I know which strips you mean as I lost one on my first FL2, never bothered doing anything about it though Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I seem to remember Lar fixing them on with clear silicon sealant.

I was so far assuming that the strips are required as a protective element for the edges of the wheel housings, e.g. against corrosion, small stones or pebbles thrown away from the wheels, or against getting hurt on the sharp edges. Therefore I initially thought they'd better stay in place and get either replaced or re-glued again if possible.

Our 2007 plate FL2 had a couple of them replaced under warranty just before it's 3rd birthday. Only took a few minutes to replace and I would guess that they are not very expensive.

Some of the others on our car are starting to open up as well now.

All the rubber seals on my 07 GS had to be replaced at the 2nd service under warranty. However the new ones fitted have not been upgraded and I am expecting to have to renew these in a couple of years. They looked just the same as those in wayx's gallery.

I’m herewith closing this thread with the positive result in my case :

The strips have been replaced under warranty without any problem. To do this the inner covers of the wheel housings had to be opened slightly and the new strips got pushed into place. Then the covers got fixed again. Looks actually fine.

Reason for the problem seemed to be the combination of the rubber and a metal inlay in the strip. In some cases this can result in a sort of twisting of the strips which causes them to get loose. Freelander 2 SE TD4 Automatic Mod. 2007
