Sat Nav

Is it possible to change the sat nav setting on co-ordinates from degrees, minutes and seconds to degrees minutes and decimal of a minute?

Thanks

I do not believe so. I have tried and cannot find a way. It would be usefull if it accepted OS Grid but it does not. I resort to feeding them into my Garmin etrex Legend and changing the unit settings to get the conversions.
To get decimals of a minute do you not divide the seconds by 60. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

From Wiki :- Article

Conversion from DMS to Decimal Degree
Given a DMS (Degrees, Minutes, Seconds) coordinate such as W87°43'41", it's trivial to convert it to a number of decimal degrees using the following method:

Calculate the total number of seconds, 43'41" = (43*60 + 41) = 2621 seconds.
The fractional part is total number of seconds divided by 3600. 2621 / 3600 = ~0.728056
Add fractional degrees to whole degrees to produce the final result: 87 + 0.728056 = 87.728056
Since it is a West longitude coordinate, negate the result.
The final result is -87.728056.

Conversion from MinDec to Decimal Degree
Given a MinDec(Degrees, Minutes, Decimal Minutes) coordinate such as 40°26.7717N, 79°56.93172W, it's trivial to convert it to a number of decimal degrees using the following method (for example for 79°56.93172W):

The integer number of degrees is the same (79)
The decimal degrees is the decimal minutes / 60 (56.93172/60 = 0.948862)
Add the two together (79 + 0.948862 = 79.948862)
Negate the value if it is South or West (in this case, West, so -79.948862) We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Thanks upnaway and W.D.C.A.P.H.
I occasionally have to give my exact location to an other person so he can find me. The 2 sat navs are different in regards to the way they express latitude and longitude.
I am trying to stop having to do a bit of maths or to carry a 2nd sat nav.
As the FL2 sat nav is so expensive I would expect it to be able to do both methods.

Thanks waaxh03

Absolutely MAGIC. Many Thanks W.D.C.A.P.H. not only for the convertor but through the site found a freesource for UK contour maps for my Garmin. Not had time to play yet but looks v. promising. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit
