Haldex Coupling - Seald for life ?

I have recently been asking the technical guys at "MILLERS OILS" for their equivalents for the FL2. On quoting the "STAT OIL SL01-301" (from the handbook) for the Haldex coupling, they said they had no equivalent, as it is a seald unit for life, and should not need checking. Does any one know if this info is correct ?

It's not exactly a sealed unit, as it permits working on it and in such situation oil can be spilled.
For this, it has a filling plug and exist a specific filling procedure.
The maintenance sheet says that the Haldex oil should be changed once 10 years.
However, it is not possible to completely drain the fluid during service.
So, in theory, like many recent automatic transmission, the Haldex is filled for life.

Like in the joke: warranty for life - if you don't live too much... Laughing

Thaks for the quick response Alex. Is it worth checking as part of the 30 k service ? and if so, how ? The maintenance check sheet does not mention the Haldex unit on the "B" service.

Unfortunately I've just had to have my haldex unit replaced under warranty due to very strange noises and 'contamination' found in the oil upon draining.

Only took the dealer 3 attempts to order the correct oil in the correct quantity! Big Cry

No. There is no need to check it as long as the unit doesn't loose oil.

However, the procedure is as follows:
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the filler plug.
3. Fill with oil until a thin thread of fluid runs from the filler hole.
4. Install the filler plug.
5. Turn the ignition on for 5 minutes.
6. Turn the ignition off and remove the key.
7. Remove the filler plug.
8. Fill again with oil until a thin thread of fluid runs from the filler hole.
9. Using a syringe, remove exactly 70 ml. of fluid.
10. Install and tighten the filler plug.
