Because the D5's rubbish by today's standards!

A V4, from the TDV6 and TDV8 block would be interesting though... Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Granted, but it is a shed load better than the 2.0 tdci that they put in it. Same unit that was in my Smax, just not enough grunt for the size car (The Smax, not driven a Kuga) But I'm guessing it would be similar... Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

think of Kuga as a focus on stilts as that's what it's based on. d5 engine wouldn't fit and it's dark ages tech wise. PSA 4cyls are much better

Although not a fan of Fords generally, can't deny the Kuga has got very good reviews. Like most other european Fords - it is class leading in many respects (said through gritted teeth!) Laughing

Firstly - I have owned a Qashqai and it was a great car for the money.

More importantly - the Kuga has won at least 2 group tests I have read which included a Freelander so it can't be all bad. If you want badge kudos - forget it. If you want a car that is good offroad - forget it. If you want a competent solid daily driver then I reckon it has a lot going for it.

Not going to buy one though! Rolling with laughter

Does nobody own a Outlander 2.2 in the UK Question - Far better than all the lesser crap that has been commented on in this thread, on and a 5-year gaurantee to boot.
Still, I would rather collect that £200 with the best Stornoway 4x4 on the market Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

Erm, the Duratorq engine was first introduced in 2000, and was revamped in 2005 with the "modern" belt driven rather than chain driven engine. It still produces a fairly shoddy 140 ish bhp and in the Smax (and likely the Kuga) will get about 37-38 mpg. That latest generation of the D5 was revamped in 2009, twin turbos, increase common rail pressure etc.. There is a special version designed for the C30 and it produces 180 bhp. Granted it is 2.4 over 2.0 but it is arguably smoother that the TDCI and the point was the additional power.

Ford haven't (yet) put the 2.2 Tdci in the Kuga. Don't know why as for the size and weight of the car it needs more power. My Smax was the 2.0, my mate has a 2.2 and the difference was night and day. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Because there's a whole host of new Ford engines coming in in time for the new Focus. These will have up to 180hp + for the diesels apparently.

Slight correction...the TDCi 'Duratorq' engine was brand new in 2004, that's when they brought common rail in, updated in 05 for the new focus, and has been left until now whilst a new unit is being produced.

And there's a very good reason all the cars share pretty much the same engine...has anyone not noticed how much trouble ford has been in? Unfortunately they've had to make do with what they have until all the products are due for a re-design. So for an engine that is essentially the same, with slight tweeks, to feature in nearly every Ford and not do a bad job in any of them, it's really not that bad!

My opinion anyway Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Big Dave, don't get me wrong!! I have owned 3 Fords in the last 10 years and there are those that would argue that the Freelander 2 is pretty much a Ford... I had an 07 2.0 Tdci Smax for 3 years and it is a great car, it is in my opinion too big for the 2.0 engine. The Kuga, which was always supposed to be a 4wd Smax, has that engine. It is a very good car, it just needs more grunt for the size it is. (Which is why I didn't even sit in one when I was looking to change the Smax, I knew that the performance was basically going to be the same / slightly worse.) I just couldn't work out why when they were designing a car the size the Smax was, they didn't use a more powerful engine on day one.

180 bhp diesel Focus.... that'll upset a few ST drivers then... Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Sorry I think I took a bit of stress out on that last post...I didn't mean it to come across as so brash!

Ye I know where you're coming from about it seeming underpowered (well I can imagine as I know how the unit feels in a mondeo)

I might re-read posts from now on rather than writing and ranting next time, cos I basically just look a berk! Embarassed

Certainly will...finally a hot diesel Focus! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
