Tailgate/boot lid problem

My tailgate/boot lid is having problems.

My message center in the instrument cluster says it's open, the boot lid is physically not open, but I can't get the latch to work.

Anyone else had this happen and how did you fix it?

Thank you!

A few of us have had a similar problem. It usually starts with the tailgate latch not working by hand but ok on the Fob, then the tailgate opens on its own without any help from you. Also the rubber of the latch freezing solid in the winter because of the water in the switch but I doubt you will have that problem.

Either way it is caused usually by water ingress in the latch and has coroded the switch, its a fix you can do yourself in about half an hour and costs about £7 for the part. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Ok I'll check those out.

Thanks for the help.

I'm out of town right now in the Freelander 1 and the Freelander 2 is parked safely in my garage. I did take it to the car wash the other day and it had been raining the day this happened so maybe it got wet like you said.

I get back home Sunday so I'll check it out Sunday night, maybe if I need parts I'll order them on Monday. I live 300 miles from the closest dealership so I can't just run and get it from around the corner.

I've seen some videos from Land Rovers in Russia, looks like some good off roading!

Hi, same problem here. The tailgate switch is only working 1 in 5 times now. Does anyone know the part number for the switch. Also should I order from the main dealer or can you get them elsewhere? Thanks in advance, Rich. '07 XS Stornoway Grey

Mines booked in for this next month.

Boot wont open via rubber latch, so have to use the remote to open it up.

Mine did the same. Into the stealer who replaced the catch - mind you took them 2 hours!

Its normal, cold weather freezing the water behind the rubber, its days are numbered.
