I've been thinking what to do when the warrenty expires on my FL2. Then today i find out that Landrover have come bottom in the reliability tables. Ouch!
I know that there are 'statistics' and 'dammed statistics'. I wonder how much substance is behind such reports?

Was it not the disco 3 in 1st place then RRS in 6th? no mention of the fl2

I keep seeing complaints about Freelanders and that they have this problem and that problem all over the net it seems. But wondering if that is partly just because the people who do have problems moan the loudest - and the people who do not have problems say nothing so you do not hear from them.

So facts would be nice - where do you find such reliability info? Dave
2002 Land Rover Freelander

My Freelander 2 SE is now 37 months old and done 32000 miles. In that time I have had no problems with it and I'm so pleased with it overall that I have placed an order for a 11MY for delivery in late September/early October.
My experience is that the Freelander 2 is a significant improvement on the Freelander and that while some owners have experienced reliability problems a significant majority have had no issues. I suspect those who have problems should loudest the happy silent majority prefer to keep their happiness to themselves.

i think it all comes back to the stigma in the name, mention Freelander to anyone and they automatically think of poor reliability, when I ordered my FL2 back in 2008 as soon as i mentioned it everyone took the , at least I had the last laugh!! Should have called the Freelander 2 a LR2 (like in america)

I think people have got over it, when you say a freelander 2 most who know agreed that they are a fine motor

owned both ..fl2 is vastly superior in build quality and so far reliability..fl1 had far too many rover parts  At work

I had an FL1 & I never had any issues at all with the build quality other than the rear quarter light window leaked. The Rover parts have now been replace by Ford bits lol & the KV6 petrol engine in the FL1 was more ecconomical than the newer Ford version with supposedly newer technology. In the diesel FL1 many of the mechanical parts that failed were the BMW sourced items like fuel pumps etc. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I'm more than pleased with my FL2.
As far as reports are concerned, i've always regarded JD Power as the one to take notice of.
Dunno where 'Which' extract their info from or how it's broken down into FL2/Disco/RR/Defender.

Nevertheless, reports like 'Which' can do nothing to help our residual value.

My 08 FL2 covered 28000 miles with only one fault, a rattle from interior mirror. So on 1st March I bought a new one,
From day one I complained of a vibration/ressonance at 1800 and 2600-2800rpm.
Has had new crankshaft pulley, front diff, transfer box and has had substitute wheels, propshaft etc fitted, all to no avail.
When I made formal move to reject vehicle LR U.K. are now sending an engineer next week.
Have had 59 Discovery HSE courtesy vehicle for nearly 2 weeks. All FL2's (3) Gone

FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

Too many parts have been replaced. I think maybe you should have rejected the vehicle earlier, you might have got it sorted. Yes, i know the dealer needs time to sort it, but had they been given enough time anyway?
Clutching at straws if you ask me.
Sorry it's been such a bad experiance, but i still think it's a great car!!
Reject the car, don't take 'we'll have another look' anymore. And be quick about it.

JD Power survey for 2010 on overall ownership places the Freelander low down the list.

However probe a little deeper and you find that the differences between it and the vehicles towards the top of the list are not that much. Freelander at 77.9 with the CRV at 82.7. This suggests to me that they are all pretty similar. The mechanical reliability part of the survey rates the Freelander as above average with high running costs being the only real downside. http://www.whatcar.com/NonCar/461010432560.jpg

Having said that, I have had mine two weeks and it has been back in the dealer's workshop once already and will be going back again shortly for some more work....and there is sometimes a worrying clunk on changing gear.
