some pictures of a garmin 1490 installation (I'll try to add some explications later...)

looks a tidy job! I like the garmins, they work well and have a really good interface.
have you got any more zoomed out photos of it fitted?

It was quite difficult to pierce properly because I don't have any "dremel".

While the GPS is set, it's quite clean

FreeFree where did you get the Landrover picture from on the Garmin screen? I could use that for my 1490 if I can get it Ralph
Zurmatt Silver, Diesel, Automatic, side steps, mud flaps, mats, boot liner, TomTom Start 60 installed, rubbing strips, removable Brink tow bar, after market tinted glass, front styling bar, Rear spoiler, Motorlicious tail pipe trim. Wood Company centre armrest

Nice job Freefree. Do you let your GPS in your car ? it seems not very convenient to remove it from where it sits.
When I fitted mine, easy removal was a priority for me (I never leave it alone in my car), so I mounted it this way:

Apparently the 140 model has a different mount (mine is a 760).
