Towbar/Stabiliser

Due to pick up our new Freelander GS in the next few weeks.

I would like to know if there are any members out there who have a detachable towbar, but including a bulldog caravan stabiliser fitment to it.....can this be done, or does the towbar have to be a permanent one to fit sucha a stabiliser....similar to this one...

http://www.caravanparts.co.uk/product_popu...ts_id=1113

Would rather have a detachable towbar but can not seem to find a definate answer.

Sorry to be a bit vague, but I dont want to shell out on a towbar etc etc that may be incompatible with the caravan stabiliser we've got.

Any thoughts/suggestions welcome!

Thanks

I would suspect there is enough clearance for the clamp to fit but upgrading to the Alko AKS 3004 coupling instead maybe easier it works a lot better than the blade and easier to hitch. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I'm with ad210358, upgrade to an Alko, you will find towing so much better...

If you shop around you will find the Alko AKS 3004 kit for less than £200 and
fitting it to your caravan will take no longer than 20 mins......

Looking at the picture of the bracket you'll need to fit, i can't see a way round it, safely attaching to the detachable towbar neck,

you would have to go for a fixed towbar to install that.

I agree with the Alko Suggestions, unless your caravan is a 1060's Cheltenham, then an Alko might look odd Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Definately the Alko route, agreed it's more cost from the start but you can swap it from van to van in the future should you need to, and as said above so much easier to hook up etc Thumbs Up

The only choice you have is to change the towing bracket to a fixed height one or an get an Alko stabiliser. I would recommend the Alko stabiliser as it is much easier to use. Remember when using an Alko stabiliser you must make sure there is no grease on the towing ball. Also you must use a tow ball with a long neck i.e. the Alko tow ball. I am not sure if the Land Rover tow ball is suitable but I am sure someone on this forum can answer that.

I would have had a spare Alko but on the day when I was part exing the trailer Whistle I could'nt undo it so had to let it go, gutted as they make between £75 and £140 on auction. It's worth keeping an eye on the auction site, even a set of pads for them are from £10 to £20 should you want to refurb it before fitting. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Right then,

Thanks guys, lots of good info in under a day! Good stuff!

1. If I go ALKO, can I go for a Detachable towbar?

2. If answer 1 is 'yes' which detachable towbar would be recommended (if as waaxh03 mentioned the landrover one will not comply ro will it?)?

3. If there are any answers to 2, does anyone have any pictures/more comments of any companies they recommend to fit install etc in the Newcastle/surrounding area?

4. If I don't go ALKO and keep with the stabiliser i've got, then I guess its a permanent towbar, correct?

Thanks again!

Perfectly suitable, once you've taken 20 minutes to sand the paint off the clamping area Thumbs Up

There's quite a few manufacturers of removable tow ball for the freely...mines a LandRover but has a few Brink stickers on it so you don't necessarily have to go for a LR dealer fit. Just to confirm works fine with the Alko - think there's a picture in my gallery Thumbs Up
Edit, I'll try for a paste.....

Mines a Brink and works fine, also looks like the one above as LR use Brink but mine looks a little neater IMHO those two electric points cheapen it a tad though looks better with a thirteen pin. Ner Ner p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
