Temperature gauge

Is there a reason that the temperature gauge leaps up when you first switch on the car? Is it just to exercise the gauge to check working or does it signify anything like the Renaults show oil levels etc?

Just wondered as it always just jumps up when I switch on Embarassed

Gauges etc. are electronically controlled. If some peak-then-drop and some don't move, it will probably be a difference with control firmware. It might be a function added to serve as a factory/workshop test to prove functionality at a glance. Probably intentional rather than signs of a fault - assuming it sits steady at the midpoint when the engine's warm??

If battery voltage down instruments do self test. Low voltage to trigger this is not low enough to give starting problems. A good daytime run will cure this.
Caused many headaches in1998 when Focus was first with system and Ford batteries were s---e. Months before Ford sent out service bulletin to explain. All FL2's (3) Gone

Land Rover have told me its a test as mine is a petrol model, instrument diagnostics at switch on. Dont think it would be due to low battery anyway as suggested as I did a 200 mile round trip yesterday and it still did it this morning and the battery voltage is spot on.

Maybe LR are correct for once Rolling with laughter
