Battery went flat - no apparant reason

Hi guys

Just thought I'd convey a problem I had last week to you all, interested to see if others have had the same.

Basically, I had a problem with the battery going flat after only one day stood idle.

Sat in my tent (camping last week), and after a few beers, kept hearing a faint alarm sound. Eventually checked, and found it to be coming from my FL2.

Tried to get in car with remote, and no response from locking system, so had to get in with emergency key.
Dashboard all dark, and wouldn't even take in key to allow pressing of starter.

Called out LR assistance in morning, and they came out (reasonably promptly). The technician jump started my car with low tech jump leads from his Disco.

No real reason for discharged battery, but he said there was a fault with the auto lights and radio control software which could cause battery discharge. suggested I go see LR dealer and get a "software patch".

Anybody else had the same problem?

I used to run a S/W Company , and what our customers loved was that they could log into our portal and see all the 'bugs' fixed and new features added with each release of software. This saved no end of support calls ... since the LR2 is full of software why don't LR offer the same facility????

I agree that would be a nice customer service touch for LR.

Hi Mark, I understand that in order to hear an alarm beep you had the key fod inserted. When this is done some electronics are turned on (you can even here some light noise from the engine on mine). Could that be the case for your flat battery? Rolling Eyes What did the dealer say?

Car battery had gone completely flat, the only sound was coming from some form of alarm in the car. Emitting noise about every minute.

The car couldn't be unlocked with the fob, so used the emergency key in the passenger door, then opened the drivers door and bonnet. Alarm then stopped.

Tried to put keyfob in slot, and it wouldn't "motor in" or retain itself. Aboslutely no power in battery at theat point.

Connected a friends "jump starter unit" which quickly discharged itself into my battery, giving enough power to allow the key to be taken in, and light up warning lights on dashboard. Pressing starter just resulted in click-click-click noises (presumably the starter solenoid), but not enough power to start engine.

Once started, nothing out of place, no "power consuming" ligthts etc on, so god knows how the battery had gone flat (only stood unused for about 24 hrs).

On the plus side, it looks like the flat battery/ECU reset has improved my mpg figure slightly!

Mark
PS I now switch the radio and auto lights off everytime I get in my car, and no repeat problems yet. Freelander 2

This problem is a regular post on www.RRSport.co.uk and www.disco3.co.uk too. There are problems with batteries self flattening, I suggest that you lurk over on either of those sites and use the search function and that should find you the reason. Fortunately my own car hasn't suffered from this problem, even though it sits undriven on my drive for 3 months at a stretch. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Hi there!!!

I have had the same problem twice!!!!

My battery went low the first time after 2,5 days and the second one after 4 days of parking ...
I called the service and confirmed me the battery was gone ... but while checking all stuff did not discover anything unusual ...

could you help me? (radio or auto lights?)

Is it a battery problem or an electronic devic still working while the car is locked??
(maybe the stereo ...)

?? Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry ?? I LOVE my FL2

I forgot to add that both batteries are now charged and perfectly working,
while my car is not ....

I also hear a low metallic noise for few seconds after the car is loked, but the it ends ... and within the same time lights and stereo are switched off ...

I mean ... the car is locked and except for the red light inside the jeep everything should be off ....

ok .. ok Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

What is a software patch?? I LOVE my FL2

I have had numerous non starting problems, most of these got started by removing the key and trying again.

The last was totally dead, although i didn't need to use my key to gain entry.

Landrover Assistance came and jump started me, and said have the dealer check the car on a drainage test, he also said the FL2 needed top be "told" it had a tow bar on.

"Sofeware Updates" were done by the dealer, not had problem since, well it has only been 7 days, and 3 of those have been taken up with the car been in for a leaking rear window, and a parking sensor that beeps when there is nothing nearby. Confused
