Thank God for the responses. I thought you had gone all polite and reasonable and that wouldn't do, would it? Ralph

As said on the document, when on a steep incline, the parking brake should be used before engaging the selector lever position “P” to protect the selector lever cable and to ease the operation of the selector lever. Tension between the locking pawl and the park lock wheel is thus prevented.Thumbs Up

I always have held the car on the handbrake prior to putting it in park. You also have to remember these cars often roll forward slightly before the handbrake takes hold. The way round it is to pop the car in neutral, put the handbrake on, so it holds and then pop it in park. It'll be clonk free then. You really only need to do this on a slope though Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Mine clunks when selecting drive from neutral. Tested it this morning, on a level standing, from park to neutral, foot on brake, handbrake off, select drive and clunk. select neutral then back to drive and clunk. Nothing to do with park. Any ideas?
