Newbie Request Info on new purchase

Hi All,

Just thought i would register as i'm going to recive my new LR2 next week.

But first i would like to ask your advise on the following.

Q1. I have purchased sports kit and also the tinited windows as accessories. i recived an e-mail today letting me know that the car has arrived and will be ready for pick up in a few days due to the tinted glass and sport kit needing to be fitted. I thought all this would be fitted at the manafactures not at the local dealership?....

Q2. should have asked the dealer this!.... is the privecy glass...glass or a plastic coverning thats fits over the standard window? I assumed glass as the brochure reads Privacy Glass

I would be greatful for any feedback.

Regards and thnaks

Chris Shocked

factory privacy glass is not film, film is easy to spot, if you can see the aerials in the rear most side windows from the outside, then its film. also a strange doted line on the little un-openning windows in the rear doors is easily visable with film. A sort of variegated dotted border At work

The problem i have is why are they fitting this at the dealer when the car is new?? i'm trying to gain some info before i speak to them. as in my first qestion should this be done at the manafacture and not at the dealer.

Why would they take the windows out on a new orderded car to fit new privey glass when the manafacture should have fitted this as i orderded, this would be madness.

I do not pick the car up until the 3rd October but they want me to sign this weekend at my local dealer as i got the car from another LR dealer some distance away.

Thanks for your reply and help

Chris

Just to add i have attached the e-mail chain..(start at the bottom) below, have a buchers and let me nkow your thoughts...before i send it
i'm not paying for film..... Big Cry

Is it me or am i being shafted! Censored

Hi Craig,

Please can you explain why the Tints and also the Body Kit are to be fitted at your dealership?
Is this the normal practice for a brand new car? As I assumed that the accessories would be fitted at the manactures so to minimize any future problems with removing and replacing windows. I don’t understand why the manufacture would fit standard glass only for the glass to be removed on delivery at your dealership. Retro fitted privacy film is not acceptable as factory fitted is the option we should be getting as our Freelander 2 should be as requested…. New….(built as requested) not modified to fit requested spec

I have received your e-mail regarding payment and instructions and will be in touch once I receive reply to this e-mail.

Last point, your e-mail is dated October the month is September….Just to point this out as all correspondence should be dated correctly for any future use.

Best Regards,

Chris winters

Hi Joanne,

Hope all is well, just thought I would drop you an e-mail to say your new freelander has arrived.

I am just about to get it booked into the workshop for its pre delivery inspection, Then it will go and get its tints
done. What darkness are these to be ?. Then the vehicle will go to the bodyshop to have the bodykit applied.

I take it we are just putting these extras on a supplementry invoice at the cost agreed.
i.e £300 inc vat for the tints and £1200 for the bodykit fitted inc vat. instead of putting them on to the finance.

I will need Chris to go into our Jaguar site to sign the finance documents early next week so we can get the deal
all paid out before you collect it on the 30th September 2009. I have given the Car a registration number which is xxxxx.
If you could arrange for an insurance cover note to be sent to myself for taxing.

I will give you a call later today or over the weekend to clarify eveything with you.

Thanks again
Craig

Dealer obviously forgot to order the privacy, or is making a few £££'s by charging you full price then getting the tints fitted for a smaller cost. film is ok but factory is obviously better,

My dealer told me he had forgotten to factory order the tints and would fit the film, I wasnt happy Evil or Very Mad , but when the car arrived it had factory , he had forgotton that he had infact ordered it Rolling Eyes At work

Film is okay, although it can be scratched and damaged. If you've paid for glass insist on it, reject the car 58 HSE, auto, lago grey, tints. Mine and my dogs Storm and Sky

Also, as far as I'm aware, the sports kit is dealer fit.

But yes, if you ordered privacy glass, and can afford to wait, the insist on it, much better than film, and what you paid for.

If not, get your money back and spend less on getting someone else to fit film

Rich

Sounds like they have supplied ex-stock rather than a factory order. You really are in the drivers seat regarding the deal so either walk away or screw them as they have tried to screw you.

If the car was from stock and didn't have factory privacy glass then they should have given you the choice of waiting for one to be ordered with factory glass or taking the stock vehicle and having tints applied. Check what it says on the order form as that is your binding contract. If it says privacy glass and it's under the 'factory fit items' then you have reason to complain. If it says window tints then that's another matter. it could be difficult for a customer to differentiate between the two, so would have been worthy of an explanation from them. Also, the windows do not need to be removed to apply the tint so don't worry about that aspect.

The bodykit isn't a factory option so will always need to be fitted at the dealer or specialist bodyshop.

The note about signing a few days before is right if you are financing the vehicle. Signed docs need to be sent to the finance company before they will pay there portion of the vehicle, therefore most dealers will need this done before the day that you wish to collect the vehicle so that the vehicle has been paid for in full. You can get instances where the finance company will not pay because signatures do not match etc and it gets quite messy (especially if you're not local to the seller), therefore paid in full is the best policy.

I'd advise to see where you stand as far as the contract is concerned (order form). I would have thought that you would have been given a decent deal for the vehicle to be registered in Sept (and/or the special finance), therefore they may not have offered as keen a discount on a factory order. Also if you took a special rate finance deal then it all would need to be completed by next Wed to qualify.

Hope this helps and if you need any more of a steer then feel free to drop me a PM.

Thanks for that James,

I have just spoken with the Dealer but the guy who i have been dealing with is on Hoilday today. But i did speak to another sales rep who told me that the Glass will be tint (film) if fitted at the dealership and further more if is was a factory fittied i would have cost thousands of pounds. is this correct..

I have not signed anything as of yet due to the dealer been 200miles away and the deal is done via phone and e-mail with me only putting down a holding fee of £500 until i pay the rest of the deposit on saturday and sign the agreement.

I stressed at the point of sale that we wanted a new factory built car and not a stockpiled car. Any advise on what i should do next as the dealine for signing is on Saturday.

Thanks for the help

Land Rover, the dealer and the finance company are all separate parties. Land Rover consign the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer is debited, then the customer either pays cash and drives the car away or the finance company pays all or part............ and hey presto!
