Yellow Warning Light...

The yellow warning light that depicts an engine has popped up on my car (i6 HSE). I checked the user's manual, but it doesn't go into detail what it means. Any wise words from you guys? 2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6

I understand, but are there any typical reasons? My prevous car, a BMW, had this light blinking constantly but the dealer had no clue why. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6

In a gasoline engine, the most frequent cause for this light to go off is emission related.
It may be a lambda sensor(s) malfunction or a malfunction with one of the injectors.
Or a malfunctioning temperature sensor which will make the mixture too rich - still an emission issue.
On rare ocassions a defective throttle sensor could turn this light on.
Only a connection to a tester will tell you what it is.
And only the engine and emissions could be checked with any plain and simple OBDII tester - standard regulations -, so there is no need of the expensive dealer equipment.
After checking it, please tell us what was. I am curious if I was right... Very Happy

Thanks Alex for the serious answer... My wife, who mostly drives the car, just reported loss of power. A problem with injector or mixture could probably lead to loss of power? 2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6

Yes, it could.
Maybe the engine management took the decision to enter limp mode and this is felt as a reduced power mode.
Or maybe the engine is not in the limp mode (yet) but the wrong mixture (if this is the case) made it work ouside its parameters.
Anyway a check is mandatory.

The darned light went off just before I turned into dealer's parking lot... Diagnostics showed that there had been a problem with the gas pump; not enough pressure. Dealer said I should call road service next time around so that the car doesn't "fix itself" meanwhile. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6
