How to get the HTC Touch Pro 2 working in the Freelander 2

I actually sit on the RRSport forum but my wife has a 59 Freelander 2 and has been bugging me to get her HTC Windows mobile to connect via bluetooth to her PTI kit. I did a search on HTC on this forum and found bits and pieces but nothing constructive. This is how I did it.

Note: Make sure you've done a backup of your device before proceeding, should be ok but better safe than sorry. Do the following at your own risk.

Initial Behaviour

* Phone pairs correctly
* Phone numbers are transferred across (albeit slowly)
* Unable to take incoming or make outgoing calls
* Bluetooth connection seems to drop when dialling a number.
* No sound through the speakers

I managed to get the HTC Touch Pro 2 working by:

Workaround / Potential fix

1. Downloaded Mobile Registry Editor
2. Connected the HTC phone to the computer. I use Vista so it auto connected
3. Launched the MobileRegistryEditor.exe tool from the PC. It automatically looked for the HTC device from step 2
4. Browsed to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway
5. Added the following DWORD values:

a) ConnectScoInAlways
Value Data = 1

b) MicVolume
Value Data = 8

c) NoHandsFree
Value Data = 0

6. Restarted the device ( I just pulled the battery, left 10 seconds, reinserted and then started up)
7. Paired the device with the Free2. Made a test call. All working

Points to note

1. Copy of the phone list was slow
2. Call lists does not work. Bit of a nuisance although at least you have the address book. Use the search functionality to find numbers you can't remember
3. Land Rover website states that the phone works but with partial functionality. Out of the box it didn't work for me without the tweaks I've mentioned. http://www.landrover.co.uk/gb/en/ownership...tivity.htm
4. Should work with most HTC's with Windows Mobile 5 +
5. Backup Backup Backup Backup before proceeding.

Hope this helps.

Have you done a cold reboot e.g take the battery out , wait 10 seconds and re-insert it?

HTC Touch Pro 2 on Freelander 2

Just in case anyone is still struggling with trying to get the HTC Touch Pro 2 (and possibly other HTC WinMob models) working properly on the FL2 (ie so you can hear and make calls), thanks to those great guys on xda developers, I found another Registry tweak that fixed it for me:

Edit HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\HandsFree
\SupportedFeatures to 1085 (default 1379)

Now seems to work a treat! Thumbs Up

Or you could just turn the data link off before connecting to the FL2's, blutooth and it will work fine. Thumbs Up

True, but I suppose the registry change means it's one less option to turn off when you want the phone to work in the car. Hardly an overhead though I know! Wink

Now I just need to work out how to get TMC working!

Happy New Year to one and all.
