Thinking of becoming Chicken Nick

Been pondering on going in the same direction as Chicken George and becoming a farmer Very Happy

I have seen this and was wondering if I need anything else to make a go at it Idea Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You need a bit of land, several expensive tractors with complimenting machines behind, favourable weather and an unflappable spirit.

And many many pieces of paperwork, compliance tests training certificates, etc etc etc etc Rolling Eyes At work

ploughing! but you maybe shouldnt be ploughing at all what about direct seeding? what crop will you plant? will it be a good price at harvest? how much fertiliser will you use? dont go over the strict defra limits, record every kilo used. buts its so expensive did you buy at the right price? Oh no is that a man from DEFRA knocking at the door, come the check the paperwork again surely not Big Cry Censored its raining/hailing/a drought again Rolling Eyes the crops are dying. At work

Oddly enough I just had the lower field drained last week, the bill £5000 Big Cry 4" perforated plastic pipe is lowered into a trench cut by a special machine and the trench is filled with gravel. allowing water to peculate down to the pipe and flow off into the nearest ditch.
Without drainage crops don't grow properly and machines sink up to their axles, especially in the last 2 years since Land-rovers caused global warming and it rains all the time. Evil or Very Mad At work
