It does say that:
The prototype pictured here sports a Freelander body but the wheelbase is clearly shorter and the camouflaged front suggests that the mule has an updated grille.

Big question must be Why a Range Rover Question
Range Rover Freelander next maybe Embarassed 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I thought the LRX would look more like the Ford Kuga or Volvo XC60? Freelander 2 SE 4Td Izmir Blue, Dog cage for Alaskan Malamute, iphone Navigon Navigator

The news is already out there. This IS accurate. Door handles are shown so this is production proto rather than the concept. Don't hold your breath though. Not likely to see one on the road before 2011.

Looking at the various pictures in this topic, it varies from looking like Freelander 2 and a BMW X6 - A vehicle I could never see the point of.

Does anyone want a two door squashed range rover sport ????? D4 Commercial

But these are just computer generated pix!
I only believe the LRX will be real when I see it on the streets.

if the Range Rover LRX just looks like a smaller Freelander it won't sell!

I don't hope Land Rover made the same error as with the RR Stormer which looked great but was later sold ass a RR Sport which is just a RR with another engine! Freelander 2 SE 4Td Izmir Blue, Dog cage for Alaskan Malamute, iphone Navigon Navigator

So what is it that makes the car a "Range Rover" as opposed to a "Land Rover". The distinction is very loose to me and the LRX designated as a RR, which is based on a Freelander ("Land Rover") platform, confuses even more.

It is argued that an RR is equally a mud-plugger as is a LR Freelander/Disco

So what makes a car a RR and what makes a LR? (besides Censored marketing bullsh*t!) Chris

If the LRX is based on the Volvo/Ford Kuga it is even less offroad capable as the Freelander.

So why call it RR? If the LRX will look like the concept car (more like the Ford Kuga and Nissan Qashqai) it will sell many even if it isn't as offroad capable as the FR2.
And calling it RR will make people more proud of owning a RR even if it isn't a true RR.

Plus LR can sell more expensive features for a RR Whistle Freelander 2 SE 4Td Izmir Blue, Dog cage for Alaskan Malamute, iphone Navigon Navigator

Think LR have got their marketing knickers twisted. The product/model name should reflect the intended usage and offroad capabilities Thumbs Up
Land Rover = Agricultural and Exploration = Defender
Range Rover = Up market Luxury 4x4 = FL2, Disco, RR etc.
Town Rover = LRX etc.

I’m sure that LR could come up with something better than Town Rover of course, but from what I can make out it is not intended as a real 4x4 with anything like the capabilities of the FL2. Whistle 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

More like this I reckon:

Land Rover = Agricultural and Exploration = FL2, Defender, Disco
Range Rover = Up market Luxury 4x4 = LRX , RRS, RR

Plus no financial sense to bass lrx off Focus (Kuga). It'll be FL2 - same as XC60 and Mony and Galaxy
