United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 S Auto Santorini Black
What to do

Hi guys. Im new here.
I have a dilemma. Ive got a 2011 TD4 S . It's got a brilliant engine but needs a recon auto gearbox and the suspension looking at. It'll cost about £3k to fix. Do I get it repaired or trade it for another 4x4. I love the ride in it which makes me want to keep it. What would you do?

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Sumatra Black

Welcome to the Forum!

Trade it (unless you can fix it yourself, it is very low mileage & the bodywork is immaculate. The fact that the Gearbox is reaching end of life & the car's suspension is dubious suggests it is not an ultra-low miler).
Put the trade value plus the repair costs avoided towards another Freelander, go for a higher spec SD4. If you like the engine / drive of the 150bhp TD4 (post model year 2010), then you won't be disappointed with an SD4. (been there, done that... Very Happy )

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

How bad is the gearbox, is your FL2 still saleable?

I would agree with above, if you like the FL2, go for the youngest, best equipped, SD4 you can find. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 85k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 12th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

England 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

I had this dilemma, and need to occasionally tow a horse box or car trailer, mines a sept 2009 Hse with 98000 miles,no dpf! ,its about the only vehicle that suits pulling that kind of weight ,and the market value is too low for me to sell,so its had every thing done, including new subframe and suspension legs, various bushes, cam belt and all pulleys as a preventive measure, the body is really good, drives straight with no uneven tyre wear. All tech tips carried out,so fingers crossed im ok for a few more years.
