Does the drive computer “learn”

FL2 SD4 HSE 2014 Auto

Hi I seem to have a strange problem after prolonged periods of crawling traffic

Just done a couple of journeys on M6 and A1. There are (multiple) roadworks on both.

After periods of slow movement (10-15 mins)
It seems as if the engine has adapted to going slow and putting my foot down on exiting the blockages has no effect. Revs go up but the car continues at crawl speed gaining speed very slowly.
The gear changes are not typical going up and down at irregular places as if the revs and road speed are now out of sync

Eventually starts to drive ok and in all cases the car drives well/as expected when the engine cools down/following morning.

Its due a service so will look out for changes but any advice - things to try would be much appreciated

Thanks

Hi. Something not right there. I spent 45 mins at crawling speed in Belfast today due to some Censored thinking it was a good idea to do major roadworks that could have been done at night. Anyways, after leaving said roadblock my motor, similar to yours shot off like it usual self. No hesitations

Something is very wrong if your FL2 is not picking up speed.
Your symptoms suggest 'Limp Home Mode', and you should look at any Error Codes in the OBD System.

If no codes showing I would suggest sticking Turbo Vane Actuator, I had similar and the Dealer exercised the Vanes, it has been OK since.

On your SD4 Auto the only thing that 'learns' is the AutoBox and its many, many, different Maps and inputs. Your FL2 will still get a move on, but maybe in a different gear. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 84k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

M2 with the M3 bridge closed by any chance?

Just to rule something out Lcdxr01, you don't by any chance know what brand of diesel filter you have fitted and when it was last changed? You will see why I'm asking this in the following video Smile: https://youtu.be/wjIWlTjTFSY?si=rA5Jt041jHAjWv8j&t=93 https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

Interesting! My 2.2 SD$ does this on a very hot day, sometimes. I put it down to needing an oil flush in the near future. The gear train computer does have a self learning function, but, in case of mixed signals, does throw a wobbly if the internal temperature sensor trips the module, and goes into survival mode until the fluid cools. On my old Jaguar, I solved that by putting a three times bigger oil cooler to the gearbox. The Landrover one is very small, and not in the air stream. The real problem, I suspect, is worn valve block, causing very thin hot oil to leak around the ball valve balls internally. It is a problem of Aisin Warner gearboxes, much discussed on Volvo Forums. The last time I looked at new Valve Blocks, they were around £500, plus fitting. The gearbox oil filter is internal, behind third gear. Land rover say it can be changed in situ, by draining the box, and removing the cover plate. Never tried it, as it does not look possible in the gearbox schematic drawing.

It's a long time ago.
But one time while dragging a caravan in slow traffic the gearbox became very sluggish, turns out that I had managed to coat 3/4 of the radiator in mud, before the engine finally decided that it was too hot, the transmission became "sloppy".

Could it be that the radiator is partly blocked, could the gearbox oil be overdue replacement (50,000 miles)? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Yes to all are possible. Although the gearbox is Sealed For Life, Oil changes are recommended in as low as 4000 miles for all oils if one drives off road, or in very dusty conditions, ie, desert travel. My understanding is that the oil cooler is heavily masked for airflow. Modern cars have minimal features to save space and cost. I had a Souped up Mini once, and had three Radiators to keep the engine cool. 96 degrees farenheit, and just under the red line was normal. The Six Spotlights stopped airflow, good fun though.
The gearbox radiator is, I believe, behind the gearbox, bolted to it, under the left hand inner wing. The manual I have is the USA version.
