Low battery warning on radio?????

Sitting in the car waiting for my wife tonight, engine off, ignition off, radio on and after about 10 minutes I got a warning on the radio screen that said 'low battery'. I immediately started up and left it running but is that a sign that the battery is on its last legs? It is the original battery so it's getting on a bit. Going to Cornwall on Sunday and wondering whether I should run out tomorrow and get one. Has anyone else had this? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Yes many times from when first purchased the car at 18 months old. Either when listening to the radio for extended peroids or powering my MSA frequency PMR radios on car rally's.
But as you say run the engine for 5 minutes and it took a least 5 hours with the radios in listening mode with occasional transmit for it to reappear.

Have to say do not quite understand this as it has happened only an hour after completing a 250 mile run and then as above.

This is an automatic warning that pops up when you have been listening to the radio on battery for about 10 minutes. It has nothing to do with battery level. Most other cars will run the radio for about an hour before shutting down but maybe the LR has a bigger drain so the time is less.

Thank you tyke65 – my battery and alternator are 18 months old and I started getting the “Low battery” warning on the radio display which at first I thought must be the key fob battery so I also changed that and the message is still there when I listen to the radio with the engine off so glad to see it’s just a radio warning message which I believe can be fixed with a firmware upgrade but I would not know where to start with that.

A firmware update is never going to fix the low battery warning if you are sitting in an unlocked FL2 listening to the radio. The car will still be using a fair bit of power and the cars systems are configured to protect the ability to start the car not to listen to the radio.

As said above.

My experience. A new car battery. You will probably get three 10 minute cycles with the radio. An old starter battery one or less cycles. Even down to a minute or so warning.

I replace the starter battery every 4 years. That's about the life of them & Murphy's Law it will stop working at the most inconvenient time.

I have had this message for the entire time I've owned my Freelander. It has had 2 new batteries in that time. Doesn't seem to cure it. I ignore it now. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
