Fault Finding Techniques ??

Whilst looking for something else on forum site I came across an earlier posting of mine which helps explain my fault finding process.

I would be interested if anyone has some better advice.

FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 82k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Conversation on a submarine between the hydraulics systems senior technical Chief Petty Officer and the Forward Electrical technical CPO, Hyd CPO "Your Budenberg gauge is leaking" ( a hydraulic gauge with electrical contacts to control a hydraulic plant) says Elect CPO " if it's leaking oil it's yours , if there are sparks it's mine" my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
