United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey
Rear suspension- shock absorber damper

Hi all
I’m just replacing both rear shocks (2008 TD4) and I need to replace one of the rubber vibration dampers (seized bolt, now with a broken screw extractor stuck in it). I’ve seen the other threads on this topic from some time ago and I now only seem to be able to find original JLR spare (eBay link below) at over £150. Part number LR041112.
1. I appreciate that these cause problems if they fail in situ but does anyone have experience driving without these installed to the strut?
2. It looks like AF no longer stock spares, are there pattern parts available anywhere please?

Thanks
Jim

Thanks all, hopefully I can find one at a lower price, this one LR part alone is more than the pattern shock I’ve bought!

Has anyone had these dampers removed/ not refitted after a shock absorber change and if so any negative effects? Brgds

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Biscay Blue

When we had 4 new shocks and springs fitted to our Freelander 2 (along with a lift kit), we noticed absolutely 0 difference in not having them on the car. Sure, I'm sure there is a certain frequency of vibration that they cancel out when the car leaves the showroom. After that when everything is "bedded in", I can imagine there is lots of additional vibrations that subtlety creep in as the car ages which will overrule that 1 vibration that they are there to cancel out. Very Happy

Plus, when is there ever a snooker table smooth bit of tarmac that will allow someone enough time to notice any extra tiny vibrations? Laughing https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

FWIW
Bell Engineering changed the massive haldex/propshaft damper on our late model SD4 to the smaller earlier version to facilitate easier haldex servicing.
It has made no difference to NVH what so ever. Jules
