I cannot be sure, but Volvo use the same gearbox, called a Geartronic system. My workshop manual for the gearbox does not tell what electronic control system is connected, but the internals all share the parts list. The Volvo unit has a winter setting using third gear in sport mode. I had a 2009 Volvo V70 T6, which used the Geartronic box. They are prone to valve block wear under harsh use. If one compares the part number on each gearbox, one finds that the later gearbox is slightly different internally than the earlier one, I think the clutches are higher torque rated in the later box. Sorry, not a definitive answer, but just the way I collate information. The Asin Warner box has an auto neutral in Geartronic Volvo boxes.

When stopped at lights some newer gearboxes select neutral when the car is stationary and the brakes applied.
Easy test, be in drive, stop at lights, put her in neutral - if the revs rise she was in gear.

The idea being to reduce load and so fuel consumption and gearbox wear Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

This a copy from LR media for the 2011 models and so answers my own question.

The most significant change is the advanced neutral control logic which reduces drag when the vehicle is stationary, the engine at idle and Drive selected. While not actually selecting neutral, drive load is substantially reduced to save fuel and improve refinement. The calibration of the transmission has been revised by Land Rover engineers to reduce torque converter slip. It retains Land Rover's Terrain Response features, CommandShift® and adaptive shifting and is available on the TD4 and SD4 Freelanders but not the two‑wheel drive eD4.
