now and again i get a TRANSMISSION FAULT LOSS OF TRACTION that comes up then goes out always low speed but drives fine could it be a sensor ?

This fault is related to the haldex 4x4 system attached to the front of the rear differential. It normally just needs a service which is often neglected as it doesn't get looked at by Landrover's service schedule. An oil change and new filter along with cleaning the pump mesh filter should have it sorted.
It could be a number of haldex related faults but if it hasn't been serviced recently I'd be fairly confident that is your issue. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

In normal use the Haldex is only engaged as you start off from stationary up until the speed of about 20mph, does this coincide with your fault? I have experienced similar indications when accelerating away from roundabouts after steady cruising for some distance on dual carriageway.

It would be handy if you gave us a bit more info about the use and history of your FL2.

Have you an OBD Reader to look for error codes and have you downloaded the Freelander Repair and Wiring Manual (PDF) from this site.

As Jules and Bobupndown say above, if in doubt a Haldex service can do no harm.

Be aware that an oldish battery can throw up random faults and indications, worth remembering as the weather gets colder. --- It seems this is an unwanted feature of the FL2. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

All solid advice above and Ian is spot on! A weak battery causes endless problems with LR2s/FL2s...don't skimp on batteries nor fluid changes.
