Freelander 2 Transmission Fault

Two FL2 2011, one an SD the other a XS, both auto boxes. One has done 65000 miles the other 13000
Both have the same issue which is:
Start the car and transmission fault displayed, drive a few miles, stop, engine off, start again and no fault
Next day start, no fault, drive a few miles and transmission fault comes up
Another day no fault, select a snow mode (same issue for all modes) drive a few miles and transmission fault displayed
Another day no fault, use say mud mode and no fault at all
So, any suggestions? Both units were serviced 12 months ago
Is this a controller issue or a haldex issue?
Thanks!

Need to have the fault codes read to confirm which of a number of different issues can bring up the 'gearbox fault traction reduced' message of doom.
It's normally due to lack of servicing which throws up the code when the filter or pump screen start to get blocked.
When yours was serviced did they actually remove the pump and clean the filter screen or just replace the main filter and change the oil?
If it was cleaned recently then it's potentially a failing haldex pump or a controller issue, both can give the same dashboard error. Controllers can be repaired if there is an internal circuit board issue at about 1/3 of the cost of a new one. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Both gearboxes had oil change at same place? That message can pop up if the gearbox oil isn't at right level, and if they're both doing it.... Just an idea and an easy one to rule out.

But yeah, fault codes would be a good start.

Thanks for posting, I'll try and get the codes and see if someone here can suggest my next step
