So are they going to discontinue the Freelander?

I haven't even heard of any Freelander 3s yet. I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.

Not closing overnight not for a few years

If tata do it will be at end of fl2 run. 4-5 years. They can't do it quickly. Would you buy a solihull freelander or lrx made at the worst plant for quality?? Live your life be free-lander

Neither Jag nor LR need a second plant, thats always been the issue ever since Halewood was gutted and X type went there.

It must be 4 years since I was last at Halewood (when I worked for a supplier) it was just before FL2 was launched, and even then the line looked hopelessly empty as sales of X type dropped like a stone.

Whats the ratio of X type to FL now LR maker?

That said I always preferred Halewood over Solihull, on the whole the guys had a better attitude, worked harder and produced better quality product. Anyone in the business remember the weekly lines of rework cars at the end of the FL1 assembly line? Trim faults, engine faults, seat faults, suspension faults, the place was dark, dingy and falling apart, it hadn't seen a lick of paint in 10 years, equipment was worn out....those guys didn't give a 5hit....

To answer the question yes, I'm chuffed with my FL2 and will buy another LR next, could be a FL3, LRX or RRS, or maybe even a year old Vogue if I'm flush with cash at the time... Thumbs Up 58 HSE, auto, lago grey, tints. Mine and my dogs Storm and Sky

So will they make them at Solihull now? That might be kinda cool. Maybe start making a Solihull badge to put on them like the old Series. I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.

Surprising, but even GM (General Motors Chevrolet/ Cadillac/Opel/ Vauxhall) doesn't look at Quality when deciding to close their car plants.

HA HA HA HA!

GMs are horrible over here too!

How are the Fords over there? They are pretty good here. They were bad in the past though. I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.

From the Horses mouth, as it were

You may have read in the press today that Jaguar has confirmed that production of the Halewood built X-TYPE is to cease at the end of this year. The car was launched in 2001 and more than 350,000 X-TYPE's have been produced. Importantly for Land Rover, the Halewood plant will continue to produce the Freelander 2.

The decision to end production of the X-TYPE is one of a number of restructuring actions undertaken by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and reflects the unprecedented downturn in global automotive demand, which has especially impacted the luxury market severely. This action is a vital step as JLR continues to tackle extremely difficult conditions.

Jaguar is remaking and rebuilding the Jaguar Brand, focusing on building beautiful fast cars. The new XF and XK models have been extraordinarily well received by media and customers alike, with the XFR and XKR winning great reviews across the world. The all-new XJ, announced just last week to an excited audience in London, is a breathtaking new flagship for the Jaguar Brand and promises a great new future for Jaguar. If i sell it for that i'll be out of business in a week..

Agree. If your going to compete and win market share against BMW 3 series, Audi A4 or Mercedes C class in that sector you need something pretty special. A Mondeo in drag isn't it.

This is actually good news for Halewood in the long run. The LRX shares the FL platform so it makes sense they are built together. There really isn't room in Solihull for both models without major expansion, and the plant is already close to the boundary fence as it is, they would have to rip up the north side carpark to fit it all in.

All in all I forsee a busy time at Halewood again with the FL2, the FL 7 seater, and the LRX Thumbs Up 58 HSE, auto, lago grey, tints. Mine and my dogs Storm and Sky
