2025 Kia EV5

I see that a new FL2 sized EV will be coming to the UK next year.

It is even about the (important) same height, as well as having a good EV range.

By the time it hits the showrooms , and U.K. VAT is added you’ll be looking at a retail price of £50k upwards. Over a 4 year lease with a residual of 35% and interest that’s, going to be £750 to £800 per month . Even if you save a couple of hundred quid a month on diesel v electric it’s a big chunk of change . Personally I think that EVs will be the leading factor for finally killing the buy new for cash market as no one is going to risk big lump sums against uncertain future values , and unlike a diesel engine no one will risk buying with a view to running for 10 years or more . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles . Best Car I ever owned !

I went to an EV5 & EV4 Kia Launch Event on Thursday.

Good News -- The EV5 is certainly the right size to replace a FL2.
It appears to be well thought out with a good driving position and plenty of room inside, with a very flat loading area with the second row seats folded.
The seats allow a high driving position, although I am not sure if the steering wheel will go high enough to make driving comfortable.
The top model is very well equipped, and even the the lower models have a good range of equipment.

Bad News -- Actual launch details are still a bit vague, but the indicated prices seem to be creeping upward to above £40k, and approaching £50k for the fully equipped top model.

Overall I was very impressed and I will have a test drive after it is is fully launched.
With Kia's long warranty I am sure it will make a very good buy on the used market.

I am not sure yet what the insurance will be on the EV5, but as the Drive Battery is normally over half the cost of an EV, it will be higher until they solve how to mend accident damaged batteries. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

What is it with pretty much all of the electric cars. They look like someone has gone over them for a solid month with an ugly stick! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Cost wise £40k rising to above £50k is in line with the Disco Sport, so about right for a FL2 replacement. The FL2 wasn't a cheap car when it was new. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

The UK price has been announced.

Between about £40k and £48k (if you want it painted and perhaps a heat pump)
