United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White
2014 MY Metropolis grille

Me again, sorry!
My FL2 Metro is Fuji white and the silver part of the lower front grille has gone from a nice silver to an ugly grey, streaky colour. My local bodyshop says that it can't be re-sprayed successfully.
So, any thoughts please, and if that's true, where's the best place to source a new one - and how difficult is it to fit?
Thanks again, am constantly reminded what a great place the FL2 Forum is. Bow down I've decided to stop being a good example and will now just be a terrible warning.....

Chips has the right solution

My 2014 SE Tech has done the same.

Its not the removable surround (cf Powerfold) that is the problem but the horizontal grill bars. My understanding is that on later cars the grill is integral with the whole front bumper and cannot be separated from it.

So Ive elected to do nothing - its not rust - its just rubbish painting by whoever JLR paid - If it makes a difference when I decide to dispose of the car then I may do something about it. Jules

Same thing on my car, I have just left it as is.

There are enough Range Rover bonnet lettering with the same issue. But to date never seen the problem on Freelander bonnet lettering. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Mine is getting to the same state starting to look quite unsightly.
I plan to resolve the issue over the coming months. (I have been saying this for several years now!)
I will take the front bumper off the car and rub down prime and paint the affected areas. Naturally it's 2 different colours so will take twice as long to mask then paint before lacqureing. A new trim from powerful uk will finish it nicely. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The clear coat is also flaking off the door handles too.

Its the wife's car and if she isnt bothered then nor am I - I only look after the important mechanical stuff. Jules

Does anybody know the paint codes for the surround and grill bars?

ETA: There are different colours for the surround, some like mine are grey. Others gloss black. Not sure if gloss black would be ideal for my Orkney grey FL2? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Just re-sprayed grill with, white primer, BMW Titan Titanium Silver and clear coat.
Prep. took the longest time and masking out. Took me a while to figure out how to mask radiator grill but used 4 bits of card pushed up from vent above number plate.
All done with rattle cans for less than £30.
Just need to ceramic coat and job done.
All wheels finished at last but still having a problem with the broken finger.

Assume you painted over the chrome effect trim, do you plan to fit the Powerful uk trim as well? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

All ready fitted, that's why I am happy with the colour match on the grill.
On reflection I would not have bothered to fit the, Powerfuluk part and painted the whole lot.
