Fuel filter electrical connection query

I replaced my fuel filter recently on our 2014 FL2. I found there was an electrical connection underneath the filter which needs to be disconnected before the filter can be lifted out.

However the filter side of the connection has no terminals - just a blank plug. The replacement filter is just the same (both are genuine JLR filters).

What is the connection for ?

Can find no mention of the connector in the workshop manual (though it only goes to 2012) Jules

There is no electrical connector that has been present on my 07 diesel filter, maybe a later model thing. However, that connector does resemble the MAP connector, take a look at 3.35.

Are you suggesting that the electrical connection should attach somewhere else ?

If that is the case then it was connected to the fuel filter I recently took out by a Landrover specialist garage at its first B service some 2 years ago. Jules

Don’t some fuel filters have a heater incorporated in them for cold climate countries? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

The Repair Manual mentions a Fuel Temperature Sensor connector to the Fuel Filter. Is it this connection? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I looked at the electrical diagrams last year and I think the connector could be a water in the fuel sensor I.e. I guess the connector contains some sensor that detects water through the plastic wall of the fuel filter. All I know is that it's a pain to get to the retaining clip!

The fuel temperature sensor connector is located on top of the fuel filter. The filter has a 'Pre Heat' function built into it but its a bit misleading as its not electrical, its just a method of circulating already warm fuel though the filter, the filter has a built in wax valve, like a water thermostat, so it works dependent on the temperature of the fuel.

There are error codes listed for Water in Fuel, but I have no idea where the sensor is located.

As per the video it should be easy enough to see if the MAP sensor is connected or not. Don't know how the vehicle would run without it connected or if you would see error messages at all.

Actually I think the MAP Sensor connector is visible in the top right corner of your first photo.

shiggsy: there is no way the connector in question would reach right over the the far right hand side to connect with the MAP.

The plot thickens. Jules

Here is a fuel filter change on an Evoque - it shows the electrical blue plug (and fuel drain tube as well for that matter) being inserted at 3:23 (he takes it out at 3:02 but you cant see the plug)

So what does the Evoque have that a FL2 doesnt with regard to the fuel filter?

And does my FL2 have it simply because its a late model and maybe JLR used parts of the Evoque loom near end of production.

Yet as far as I can determine the FL2 and the Evoque with the 2.2 diesel engine both use the same fuel filter LR001313 - ie without any electrical terminals in the socket on the filter.

I remain perplexed Banging Head

PS
His way of priming the system is way too complicated. IMO Just buy one of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8mm-Car-Boat-Ru...2749.l2649

Easy to use and no mess. it goes in line with the fuel feed line (ie front left from front of car). I cut the connector of the old filter to attach to the rubber hose and insert into the new filter whilst priming. Just pump until you hear no more air bubbling in the fuel tank and the bulb feels hard. Instant start thereafter. Jules

I changed the fuel filter on my 2012 Evoque the other week. Genuine part. No electrical connection underneath and no spare wires that I noticed either. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

No I think that is the connector on top of the filter Jules

Some sort of plastic divining rod maybe Laughing

Creeping in on it. On this video of a Range Rover Evoque Diesel Filter Change, there is an electrical connector that is screwed into the base of the unit that is obviously what your blue connector would plug into. (4:10 ) Just have to find out what that sensor is now I guess.

Thats great Shiggsy - were getting warmer.
Looks like the screw-in sensor is missing on mine. Was it never there ? (then why wire it in) or was it lost by the garage doing the first B service.

I guess its a water sensor - using electrical conductivity to detect water forming in the base of the filter maybe. Jules

The fuel rail pressure/temperature sensor is located on the LH end of the fuel rail. The ECM supplies the combined pressure and temperature sensor with a 5V reference voltage and a ground and measures the returned signals for pressure and temperature.

Reading Repair Manual further I have found that the electrical fuel temperature sensor is combined with the fuel pressure sensor and fitted on the end of the fuel rail. Not on the filter.

I cannot find a 'water in fuel' sensor on the electrical diagrams, although it is mentioned in the fault codes twice. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
