P0916-33 error code

Bought a obd reader for my FL2 and these two error codes keep popping up. Are they anything serious or easy to repair?
It's a 2010 manual 2.2 diesel[/quote]

Why not look it up for yourself. Just put the code into your favourite search engine! Then if you can’t work it out, come back and ask. You’ll get a better response if it looks as if you tried before using us as a help desk!

I did exactly that and Google gave multiple answers for the same code.

One section even said post it on freel2.com as the guys there should know....

So I did exactly that.

It actually reads gear position sensor low.

So I wanted to know if this creates any stress on the engine that could cause issues.

If not, is it an easy fix? I'm guessing there's issues with the circuit... But where is it located so I can test continuity?

oops sorry - I misread it. Confused

My list of FL2 codes says

P0916 Gearshift position - circuit low

Why would need to know gear lever position on a manual gearbox ?

Reverse gear protection ??? Im guessing Jules

Jules. With it being a 2010 Freelander 2, it could have start/stop on it. I know on ours it also has the nag light on the dash telling me when it thinks it's best to change up. Maybe it needs to know what gear it's in for that or for the stop/start in general? Smile https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Rimini Red

I'm guessing it's one of those random codes left over from development that was never removed from the system.

Another thought is that the ECM has been replaced by one from an auto, but hasn't been fully configured to a manual vehicle.

A manual shouldn't need to know the current gear, as the ECM can calculate the current gear from a simple calculation between the engine speed and road speed.
On 1st and reverse gears need actual switches, so the HDC can be sure as to whether to all HDC to function or not. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
Hyundai Ionic 5 Ultimate on order.
Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE.
